Around SBN: The Pros and Cons of an 18-game NFL Schedule

Well, there are technically two directions you can go from here. But to go up in the final version of the poll, you have to win the whole shooting match.

MSU is #2 in the preseason coaches' poll, behind only Kansas. Three of the 31 voters in the poll had us #1 on their ballots. The lofty ranking will be tested early, as the team plays both the #3 and #4 teams (Texas/UNC) in December.

Other Big Ten teams appearing in the rankings:

7. Purdue
15. Michigan
17. Ohio State
18. Minnesota
27. Illinois (2nd team under "others receiving votes")

Update: Also under the category of "Lofty, Tough-to-Exceed Preseason Expectations," MSU is the Big Ten media's pick to win the conference title and Kalin Lucas is your 2009-10 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year.

Update #2 (about being #2): Same spot in the AP poll. Five #1 votes for MSU out of 65 ballots. Media guys not as high on UNC (#6) and Minnesota (#25); higher on Illinois (#23).

5 teams in the top 20, 6 in the top 27.

Being #2 is great, but I think we’re going to have a bit of a roller-coaster ride in the polls, partially due to the non-con schedule, but more because of the Big Ten schedule. it’s difficult to see us making it through 18 games without taking at least 3 or 4 losses.

The Big Ten is going to be absolutely brutal this year, and I love it.

Nice!

Thanks for the additional links. We’re already set up well for this year and the next couple, but if he does commit we look even better.
