Projected Football Roster

[Bumped, and added to the illustrious "For Your Reference" section in the left sidebar.  --LVS.]

I liked KJ's projected basketball roster so much, I thought I'd put together the same thing for football.

Comments / improvements / debate welcome in the comments.  I hope to keep this updated as MSU gets more commits and as news comes out.  Likely update periods are Signing Day / verbal commit day, and Spring Football news period.

12/8/09:  Added Skyler Schofner, Rivals 4-star commit.  The (R) indicates projected redshirt.

Very Impressive.

Obviously all tentative as of now, but great nonetheless.

I’d make one change though – I’d bet dollars to donuts Kevin Muma’s the kicker instead of Dan Conroy.

Added as an "and/or" slash.

We’ll see what comes in the Spring.

This is awesome.

I’m going to bump this tomorrow (want to keep it game-centric today), and add it to the “For Your Reference” list, if you don’t mind . . .

Absolutely.

Should I retitle it as “Projected Football Starters”, since that’s what it really represents? Also I made some assumptions about guys redshirting (e.g., Will Gholston). Think I should mark them as such?

by CPT Hoolie on Oct 31, 2009 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

That makes sense to me

If you get really ambitious, you could do a full projected roster, with projected starters bolded or something. (An offseason project, perhaps.)

Up to you how detailed you want to get with spelling out assumptions, but might save you from having to answer questions.

Great work.

Nice Post

I agree with a lot of your projected starters. I’d guess Klatt starts at C though.

Klatt vs. Stipek

I kind of agonized over that one (though not nearly as badly as what to do with Dion Sims). Stipek started in Nitchman’s absence earlier this year and in my opinion did very well. As a senior next year I think he has the line on starting unless Klatt leaps past him in camp.

Is Klatt redshirting this year?

by CPT Hoolie on Oct 31, 2009 6:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he is red-shirting

Which is part of the reason why Stipek played over him. I believe the coaches thought we could get by with Stipek for a couple games and still be able to save Klatt’s red-shirt. Some correct me if I’m wrong about his red-shirt.

I think we should give Sims a long look at DE in spring ball as well as the month of prep for a bowl game (if we make one). We have young talent at the TE position and will need to replace T. Anderson next year on the DL.

I wouldnt write off Trenton Robinson

Hyde is really not playing all that well if he is a starting safty next year I think it will be a problem

I don't know about Robinson.

Considering he can’t even crack the two-deep, either the coaches like Ware, or there’s something they don’t like about Robinson.

Robinson was listed as a cornerback when recruited, and is closer to typical cornerback size (5-10, 190#).

I belive its cause he has been hurt.

Im also 100% sure he has moved to SS for now. Theres no way KDC would be ahead of him if he was healthy

Gholston

Gholston is listed as 237. If he can add about 15 pounds I am guessing he will be the starter next year. If not, I’d guess he’ll get significant playing time.

by DrDetroit on Nov 1, 2009 7:29 PM CST reply actions

I projected him to redshirt.

He needs to add some weight but really (according to Scout) needs to work on his technique.

by CPT Hoolie on Nov 1, 2009 7:43 PM CST up reply actions

I hope he redshirts

but what I have seen from the backup DEs this year, MSU is going to need help next year.

by DrDetroit on Nov 3, 2009 7:59 PM CST up reply actions

I don't want...

….to bag on the work done, but I don’t think trying to forecast now who’s going to start in 2012 is going to work very well.

Something like this scholarship chart done by Jolly Green Giants, with more commentary would be interesting and avoids the need to try to figure out Barrent vs. Conway hypothetical position battles.
