I'm assuming ABC doesn't give us the 3:30 slot (and UM-OSU the noon slot) because that's how George Perles wanted it. Anyone know what the story is?

3:30 Time Slot on ABC
Evidently you have not seen Michigan’s win streak.

Still
It’s one of the all-time historic rivalries between two teams with enormous/rabid fanbases. And Michigan’s been in the 3:30 ABC slots 4 times previously this season (including vs. Illinois), so they must still draw pretty good ratings.

Supposedly
The Michigan-OSU game is traditionally a noon start when it’s in Ann Arbor. That’s what I’ve been told anyway and I guess it could explain why a game between OSU and Michigan that controlled each team’s BCS fate in 2007 was at noon. (I think).

It was a noon start last year, too
I remember that because OSU’s win eliminated any chance of us grabbing a share of the conference title, before our game even started.

Money money money!!!!!
I believe after the switch from Daylight Savings Time, all 3:30 Michigan games have to have added lights. That is at the cost of ABC.
So ABC/ESPN has to pay a lot to bring in temporary lighting structures and put them around the Big House so the game can be played and shown on TV.

Michigan/OSU
is at noon with a national footprint. MSU/PSU is the later game, but it is a regional ABC broadcast (with ESPN picking up out of market coverage). Considering the difference between regional and national brodcasts, the Michigan game is still in the prime slot.

I get that
But it’s the reverse of every other college football Saturday, when the national game is at 3:30. I assume that showing the bigger game (audience-wise) at 3:30 is better for overall ratings. Just seems strange that ABC would reverse it for the final Big Ten Saturday.

Can't do regional
at Noon EST very well. That means that you have a 9 AM PST kickoff or no Pac-10 game. In the old days, they would have put the Pac-10 game on at 4 PM PST (and not given those viewers a game at 9 PST). Now that there is a national night game on ABC, they can’t do that. So…tOSU/UM and UT/OU move to Noon EST.

How Perles did it
Before his delusions of grandeur consumed him, he was agreat motivator. He was
able to get the most out of his players and, for a while, we were a tough football team to
beat.

Red River Rivalry
Texas-Oklahoma is typically on at noon too, so I thing ABC’s plan is to put big rivalries on at noon, and then they have the 3:30 game as regional coverage. Who else are they going to have at 3:30? I guess Wisconsin-Northwestern, but MSU-PSU is a bigger game than that, in my opinion.
