Um, no

No matter what happens today

These seniors can graduate knowing that they helped make MSU a better, stronger program.

Light a man a fire, he'll stay warm for a day.
Light a man afire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Nice catch, dirty hit

If that had been an Iowa player down on the ground Im sure the flag would have been thrown. But of course we can’t get the call.

by JadeMonkey23 on Nov 21, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The stubborness of our play calling is infuriating

So many run plays against an amazing run defense.

by dcspartan1 on Nov 21, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Please God

Tell Dantonio to throw the ball.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 3:03 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

And also God

Tell Narduzzi no more three man lines.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 3:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It is literally unbelievable that we have called so many running plays against this defense

That being said, I’m still a huge fan of the Keshawn Matin Wildcat – Martincat?

by dcspartan1 on Nov 21, 2009 3:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Now

the run game is working well.

I wrote it in my preview I think Penn Stat’es LBs are too good to run the Martincat against.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 3:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

misdirection

It seems like the fake end aroudn is really holding the outside linebackers in place so that they can’t fill the hole immediately. Stubornness with a little smarts

by dcspartan1 on Nov 21, 2009 3:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes! No good!

I really thought MSU needed to get off to a fast start and lead.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 3:31 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Ugh...

Need some points before half

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 3:41 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Irony

If it had been handled better earlier this year, it’s the first game I really wouldn’t mind seeing Nichol to give the offense a spark and make the defense adjust.

by intrpdtrvlr on Nov 21, 2009 3:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Enjoying the new offense

I disagree that we can’t do most of this stuff on their normal defense – these quick outs will work against their normal defensive set.

by dcspartan1 on Nov 21, 2009 3:48 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I agree

Our WRs are great and we should attack threough the air.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 3:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

We should be doing much more 3 to 4 WR sets where we pass to open up the run.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 3:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Passing working great...

So my prediction now is run, run, incomplete pass, field goal :-)

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 3:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

So...

think they actually stick with the pass like they did on that drive or just try running a bunch?

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 3:53 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thought we'd be tied at half

but forgot about our 2 minute defense

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 3:56 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

What the hell was Kendall Davis Clark doing there?

The WR he stepped up to was already covered and he just let his man run right by him. We’re damn lucky he dropped it.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 3:57 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Uh oh

Coach D thought we executed very well with the run…looks like our hopes for us opening up the offense with out passing game won’t happen.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 4:25 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

I hate penn state

I hate them so much.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:26 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

After playing well early

our D has been shredded the last 3 drives. PSU should have at least gotten a fg on the last drive of the 1st half if it wasn’t for that drop.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 4:29 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Typical

for a Narduzzi defense. He really needs to be fired.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:30 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Ugh

Double TE I formation.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:39 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Gah, drop!

Cousins deserves better.

by intrpdtrvlr on Nov 21, 2009 4:41 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Yup

Surprisingly it was BJ…his hands have been very good this year.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 4:42 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

So.. what am I missing...

Why, when MSU absolutely destroys PSU and marches down the field when throwing down field every play — do they go back to running up the middle/passing behind the line of scrimmage?

What am I missing?

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 4:42 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

That's Dantonio

Its how he coaches and wants to play.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:43 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Frustrating to watch...

So it’s not just me.. it’s Dantonio going ‘I don’t care what works – I’m doing what I want’?

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 4:43 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

The sad thing is

the only way it’ll change is if we are down multiple scores…then we’ll open up the offense.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 4:44 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

ABC talking heads

That’s what the announcers just said, we’re going to be “forced to do what we do best.” Funny.

by intrpdtrvlr on Nov 21, 2009 4:50 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Not really

Its more of Dantonio building his program.

He wants a power rushing team. So he is coaching the team to be that. It hurts this year, but could help next year and beyond.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:45 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

soo....

it’s the ‘why win now when we might win later?’ approach?

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 4:49 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Seems to be

It’s the same thing with putting Nichol in. It’ll help if Cousins ever gets hurt. But it’s cost us several games for an uncertain future return.

by SpartanDan on Nov 21, 2009 4:50 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

It is buy in

You have to run what you run to get everyone to buy into the system.

You can’t go back and forth. You’ll never get the consistency of a good program.

Its why Michigan did well with Lloyd Carr and Rodriguez dropped everything right away.

Dantonio has to drop everything about John L. Smith and make the football team work in his system.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:51 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

I definitely understand what he's building for

but it’s painfully obvious that’s not the way we’re going to maximize our success this year. A coach needs to be able to adapt to their players strengths. He can still recruit towards his goal of becoming a power running team but we need to do what’s best for our team on the field this year.

It’s not like it’s the 3rd or 4th game of the year and we’re still wondering if we can develop the run game. It’s the last game of the regular season and we haven’t been a good running team all year, but we’ve been a very effective pass team.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 4:49 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

That ball hung up for 10 seconds

And he was still wide, wide open.

by SpartanDan on Nov 21, 2009 4:48 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Finally

A big special teams play and penalty.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 4:52 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Anyone? Anyone at all?

Impressed with Penn State?

I’m not. They are not that good. And they are kicking the shit out of MSU. Just f’n pathetic.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:00 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

I'm impressed

With their ability to find guys who are covered by absolutely no one.

by SpartanDan on Nov 21, 2009 5:02 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

They seem to have figured out

that they can take advantage of our pathetic safety play and our “blitz 2 guys every play” defensive scheme

"It's a trap!"

by AdmiralAkbar on Nov 21, 2009 5:04 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

And Clark

figured to throw it at whomever is supposed to be covered by a linebacker.

So its up to Narduzzi now and his secret weapon of do nothing.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:05 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Yup...

I didn’t realize their resume is so bad. They haven’t beaten anyone this year. Not a single decent team… only teams they beat with winning records are Northwestern and Temple? Awful.

by MooTheKow on Nov 21, 2009 5:02 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Lets hope that JoPa takes his foot off the gas here… this is not our day

"It's a trap!"

by AdmiralAkbar on Nov 21, 2009 5:03 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

It looked like Martin was held a bit there

couldn’t continue his break across the field.

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 5:03 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

That

is legal in college. You can bump going down the field.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:04 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Yup

This isn’t the NFL. There is no illegal contact.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:06 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Alright, I'm done guys

Thank god we have a BBall game tomorrow at noon

by Stones1981 on Nov 21, 2009 5:06 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

At some point

when do we blame this pathetic pass coverage across the middle on the LBs where it belongs? They may be able to stop the run most of the time, but they can’t cover anyone. It doesn’t help that we have to blitz them all the time to even hope to get pressure on the QB either

"It's a trap!"

by AdmiralAkbar on Nov 21, 2009 5:07 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Uh...

I’ve been doing that all year.

Its why I have been saying “Fire Narduzzi” since September.

His defensive scheme sucks and he won’t make adjustments. If he is not fired/demoted/promoted for next year expect another 6-6 type season. It’ll be a high water mark for MSU.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:09 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

When

does “Fire Narduzzi” turn into “Fire Dantonio” if this doesn’t happen in the future and we continue to have these problems?

"It's a trap!"

by AdmiralAkbar on Nov 21, 2009 5:12 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Dantonio

has at least a few more years as long as he keeps getting MSU to bowl games.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:14 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Now

I expect what I predicted.

An 8 minute Penn State drive.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:19 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Yeah, Keith Nichol

I love a QB who is so inaccurate that he can’t get it to a wide open receiver.

I can see why we keep playing him.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:27 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

I am really hating this coaching staff

Any reason the starters are in defense? If you can put Keith Nichol in on offense, you can put backups in on defense.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:32 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Yeah

MSU throws the ball 15+ yards downfield, result, TD.

It is what they should have done all game.

by DrDetroit on Nov 21, 2009 5:40 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Maddening.

I said this earlier, this a game where I could see a series or two for Nichol being a valuable change of pace. Why did we blow so many games by inserting him at strange times (after Cousins TDs) yet left on the bench for this one until it was a blowout?

by intrpdtrvlr on Nov 21, 2009 5:41 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Because he sucks

He is horrific. He can’t throw for shit.

Why we played him at all after the CMU game is beyond me. Well, the Illinois game I understand, but he is why we only scored 17 points on offense.
