"First of all, my son said there were absolutely no ski masks," Dell['s father] said. "There wasn’t a big fight like people are trying to make it out to be. If 15 players had conspired to go to this party and jump on some people, it would have been chaos." [ . . . ]
"Coach Dantonio called us Tuesday to warn us that he was going to suspend Mark," Dell Sr. said. "He believed Mark wasn’t fighting but they still had to come up with swift suspensions based upon what had happened before with Winston."
The Free Press interviews family members, who, unsurprisingly, have a more sympathetic take on the situation. If what they say is true, then this incident was clearly not as serious as what has previously been reported. But, these are obviously not unbiased interviewees. I suppose we'll all have to be patient here, which sucks, because I'm sick and tired of reading about the incident -- and, more importantly, having it cast a very dark shadow over my university and my favorite football team.
For two interesting (and rather sympathetic) viewpoints on the situation, take a look at the FanPosts by Ken Braun and the indispensable Spartan Sports Page.

I find this version
slightly more plausible than the initial story. It still s
Light a man a fire, he'll stay warm for a day.
Light a man afire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
I understand why Dell's dad wanted to speak up.
But he needs to quiet down, since he’s going out of his way to put his kid at the scene of the crime and has now informed us that Dell lied to Dantonio about being at the incident. I know none of it’s huge, but why help the prosecutors out?
I don't think...
…accessory to misdemeanor assault is even a crime, but I’m not a lawyer. Assuming Mark Sr. is sure that Mark Jr. didn’t actually punch anyone, it seems pretty safe to talk about it.
agreed
given the results of the incident so far (one injury, no immediate arrests, initial police comments, etc.), dell’s account seems to make more sense….as for Dave314’s comments, I don’t think there is much risk is telling this side of the story. Regardless, the initial headlines describing a savage ambush seem to be pretty egregious.
