Why stop at 30?

He’s shooting 5% at the line.

fwiw Nix's form has not looked good to me

his hands are basically ‘bearclawing’ the ball and when he shoots it looks more like he’s pushing the ball towards the rim rather than shooting it

Waiting for April.

MSU coaching staff

has always taught big men to hold ball deep in palm when shooting free throws.

Not sure why. Obviously, it’s worked for some and not for others.

Incentive

Maybe he just needs a little game incentive to shape positive behavior. Hit a free throw, get a little treat, or maybe no wind sprints for the team next practice.

More on Nix’s FT shooting:

"There’s no question it’s mental now." Izzo said he likes Nix’s free throw-shooting form — saying it was better than that of fellow freshman center Garrick Sherman (2-for-4 on the year) — and adding Nix has continued to work on it, even shooting 1,000 free throws one weekend.
