Rose Bowl selection change could hurt Big Ten
So when USC is playing TCU in the Grandaddy of Them All, will Jim Delany stop using the tradition of the Rose Bowl as an argument in opposition to a college football playoff system?

I love how they're throwing around Illinois' beatdown as justification for this
This post at BSD pretty much blows that argument to bits. Nonetheless, I would have traded places with Illinois in a heartbeat. Anything which makes it less likely that we’ll make it to Pasadena = lame.

This is why...
…the old, bowls followed by arbitrary national champ selected by polls was better. Big 10 vs. Pac 10 in the Rose Bowl means more to me than the BCS games. The system now is slightly less arbitrary than the old system, but not enough to matter to me.
I’d say, either go to a playoff, or dump the BCS. It’s a crappy half-measure that fails on both counts, to me.
Exactly
If you’re going to promise us an undisputed national champion decided on the field instead of by biased and/or clueless voters (and there are plenty of both, depending on which poll you’re looking at), you better deliver. The BCS hasn’t done that (and can’t, most years). It is the worst of both worlds.
I still find it ridiculous that the BCS purports to have a championship game, and yet neither of the two unbeaten teams last year were invited to it. (Don’t get me wrong, I think the choices of Florida and Oklahoma as the two best teams were defensible, mainly because I don’t think Utah or Boise goes unbeaten in the Big XII or SEC. But the fact that they had done everything that could possibly be asked of them, and still didn’t make it, is galling.)
Especially since...
…it’s not Utah’s fault their attempt to get a quality win against a big-name nonconference opponent in 2008 didn’t pan out.
