Comley extended too.

Comley was extended too, though only thru 2013. I was hoping they would fire him, not extend him. I can’t believe they gave him another four years!

I know he won a National title (which was a function of riding a hot goalie in a tournament where 3 of the 4 #1 seeds were dumped on the first day and no #1 seed made it to the frozen four). I’ll take it, but just it was as much a function of tournament breaks and players heart than any “coaching” ability on Comley’s part.

Still , 7 seasons: 0 CCHA regular season championships, 1 CCHA tournament title, 2 GLI championships, missing the NCAA’s 3 times, last year’s disastrous 11th place finish in the CCHA, when his team effectively rolled over in the playoffs, where his players attacked other players on the ice and were involved in altercations with other Spartan team off the ice. It sure seemed like a Bobby Williams loss of control moment.

I’m not like a delusional Notre Dame football fan or Kentucky basketball fan. I don’t have a sense of entitlement that we should win the NCAA’s or CCHA every year. I do believe that we have the talent, fanbase and facilities that would allow us to be more competitive than we have been under Comley.

I’d never want to “give” a title back but I wonder if would have been worth not winning the NCAA title if it would have resulted in his firing 2 years ago.
