Handicapping the Big Ten Player of the Year Race
Basketball!
Dylan runs down the top five candidates for Big Ten POY in the upcoming season. Can't argue too vehemently with Evan Turner over Kalin Lucas; Turner was the (slightly) more productive player from an individual performance standpoint last season. I'd put those two and Manny Harris in a tier above the other candidates.
My sleeper pick is JuJuan Johnson. If he can improve half as much this offseason as he did last offseason, he'll be downright dominant in the paint this season.

Can't argue with Johnson
as a dark horse. He was quite a pleasant surprise for Purdue last year and if he improves they will be very tough.
I’ve often thought the Big East gets something of an unfair advantage in terms of being considered one of the top conferences just because of the sheer number of teams in the conference. At least 3-4 are likely to be very good in any one year, but what really gets ignored is how bad the worst teams in the conference are. If Indiana were in the Big East and the uneven schedule had given them home and away games against the other bottom feeders, Indiana could have won 4-5 games last year in the Big East.
