Good Lord

Has any other team deserved a win less than we did today?

Agreed

But MSU showed resiliency, and clawed their way back. Gotta play with that fire.

To have Green Lucious and Roe shoot 2 for 20

and still win is way beyong expectations.

Big game from Lucas, Morgan, and Allen.

Somebody said this earlier...

But that felt like last year down the stretch. Lucas taking over, the other team growing tighter and tighter and the Spartan’s defense began to really dig in. Keeping the opponent off the boards when it counts. Really, for about thirty-three minutes or more Minnesota flat outplayed us today, and then suddenly were not able to get the looks they were getting all afternoon. Great perimeter defense down the stretch, particularly by Allen.

Thanks for giving me a heart attack Spartans

But I’ll take that anyday over soul-crushing depression.

Worth mentioning – Raymar did not miss a shot all game. Awesome.

wow

I thought I was watching that uofm wisconsin game where one team leads and controls the game the first 32 minutes or so until the other decides to clamp down on defense and make it a game.

I can’t remember the last time we have had to rely on the 3 that much to stay in the game… 13-37(35%) from 2 and 11-24 (45%) from 3. Quite a differential between the two.

Kudos to Raymar for playing so well with 4 fouls for that long

At times frustrating, but some things to like here

Finally some grit and tenacity. Lucas taking another step towards being the stone-cold assassin we need. Saving ourselves with the 3-ball. Raymar staying in the game despite fouls. Good road win.

What a different frame of mind it will be

Going into Michigan with a gritty victory instead of a deflating loss.

Great comment by Coach

Coach Izzo said in the postgame w/ Gus that the player of the game was the Big Guy, Nix, because the margin of victory was 1 and he made a free throw. I think that was a great comment as far as giving Derrick a pyschological boost; will definitely help him with his confidence.

Morgan shot 100% from the field

Very strong game from him considering the foul situation. Allen was huge with the timely 3s. Lucas also sank some big ones. Minnesota seemed to tighten up down the stretch and stop running their offense.

by TheCrestedHelm on Jan 23, 2010 1:19 PM CST reply actions

Lucas is of course the other star

22 points 8-16 over all with 4-7 from 3 and two more at the foul line.

Good and bad

Our interior void is exposed like it was against UNC. Roe and Green can play against guys who are bigger, but when you’ve got guys who are bigger and who are better than average, it hurts to watch. Nix and Sherman just don’t have the experience yet, and I feel like this team is fortunate to not have been exploited more in this way. Who would have thought that three-point shooting would bail us out?

Lucas looked like a leader for the first time in a long time. He’s got his 20 other times this season, but did it in a selfish-looking way. Today looked like he was truly leading the team out there, scoring and otherwise.

I was far less displeased with this out-of-a-hole-digging performance that the last several this year. The Spartans came out with great energy, I thought, and did not look lazy like they’ve been prone to doing. Their shots just weren’t falling. Add to the the disparity inside, and I had given up by early in the second half. But they fought back, clamped down on defense, and stopped trying to beat the Gophers at the Gophers’ game inside, instead relying on their own style. Deserving of a win? I don’t know. But a come-from-behind road win in a tough arena and a 7-0 start is never bad.

Bring on the weasels.

While it was a horrifying game

I felt confident in the Spartans’ ability to come back during the whole game. It was a completely baseless confidence, it feels awesome that the team actually proved they deserved such confidence.

Although it was in no way an awesome win, it was still an awesome win.

by cwel87 on Jan 23, 2010 3:23 PM CST reply actions

I wish I could say that I was confident they could come back. Plain and simple Minnesota looked good. Defense, as always, was solid and they were making some big shots and great passes. But, the Spartans prevailed.

Have to start to involve Sherman in the offense

He is open on the block and seldom gets the ball. We will need him and MVP Nix down the stretch and in the Dance. I did not think we were gonna win this game.

I must think like a coach

I’m already worried about this game not turning into a loss of focus against Michigan. Blowing things in Ann Arbor would make this victory seem like a faint memory.

I wondered the same thing

There’s been hitches in this team’s giddyup for a few games now. While watching the game, convinced of the deserved loss, I figured at least this would have a shot at getting the funk out of our system before driving down to AA next week. Now I’m left to wonder.
