As demonstrated by this the brass at ESPN would like to kick the majority of football fans in Michigan right in the teeth. And not a nice, gentle kick in the teeth. This is "American History X"-style. By which I mean, assigning Matt Millen to call this game is not nice. Be nice, ESPN, and send the buffoon and his magical-Old-Man-Ford-hypnotizing mustache elsewhere. Does Alaska-Fairbanks have a football team? Are they playing a home date against the University of Kamchatka? Perfect.
The only way this makes sense are 1.) cluelessness in the extreme 2.) some sort of controversy courting 3.) Digger Phelps secretly controls ESPN.
Some kind of controversy courting that doesn't even make sense. I doubt very many uninterested people tune in just to see Millen call a game to a state of still-angry football fans and they're just annoying the people most likely to watch their broadcast. If it turns into a blowout (not likely, but if) the fact that they or we have to listen to Matt Millen describing it would make me turn the game off a bit quicker.
Or, maybe they've decided to bring MSU fans and our friends from Ann Arbor together in harmony. Millen-hating harmony, but still harmony. I'm not going to be at the game but, for those who are, how about a good old Fire Millen chant?
