William Gholston Out for the Year
Matt Charboneau is reporting that William Gholston is having shoulder surgery and is out for the season. Dantonio said he could have fought through it but would have missed all of Spring practice. Shame, as some extra bowl practice reps would have helped prepare him for next season.

Bowl Practices vs. Spring Practices
So he could have fought through it and not been completely healthy for bowl practices. Or he could have the surgery and be 100% for spring practices.
Getting him at 100% for spring practices seems like a win to me.

Smart move, for sure
Didn’t mean to imply otherwise, but it’d be nice to have him for all those practices!

Gholston
I wish we would have turned him loose this season more than just passing downs. If I knew we were going to use him this way I would have just redshirted him. He did not play much special teams and while I’m sure he had an impact, it wasn’t what I think he really had the ability to do. Same thought on Bullough except Bullough has been probably our best special teams tackler all year. Sky is the limit for both young guys. Probably my only gripe with the coaching staff this year and I defer to their better judgment in these situations. Just my opinion.
