Signing Day open thread

If only to get the painful reminder of the Wisconsin game off the top of the page, let's turn back to football. Today is signing day, and here's an open thread where we'll post occasional updates. (And I mean occasional. This is not a live blog. Not even a zombie blog.)

Let the Will Gholston Confirmation Watch Begin!

And we can start here, with a list of verbals.

Maybe...

Ole Willy should give him a ring and tell him how much fun they would have playing together…

Just a thought

Not sure...

…but a virtual browser might let you circumvent the IT lockdown at your work. Just a thought.

early enrolls

I think those are the guys who are already taking classes, so there’s a good chance ESPN hasn’t made any updates today.

i like the recruit of this Niko Palazeti. he looks like he could develop into a great short yardage and goaline type of back. bruiser with some attitude. what do you all think of this class? it seems a lot of our targets have signed else where, but thatll happen i suppose.

6' 0", 230 lbs

Ran a listed 40 of 4.99. I’m guessing he is destined for specials teams and little else.

If he can put on 30-40 lbs he might be an o-lineman.

Unless he plays bigger/faster than he is.

thats fine

where you get offers from doesnt mean much to me. played d1 in a very competitive league in MI. would not be surpised to see some bulk added and some steady goal line carries in the future.

by zachjuett on Feb 3, 2010 11:20 AM CST up reply actions

It just means...

most schools did not think much of him. And its typically a bad sign if MAC teams don’t even give up an offer.

He is either a huge sleeper or someone who won’t be playing.

my two cents on Niko

He is a goal line back for sure. Good lead blocker. He was hard to bring down in the game I watched.

I firmly believe if we had a guy like him this year, we would have scored on our goal line… We would have won the MN game for sure.

I think he will be a typical MSU roleplayer fullback.

Lots of lead blocking with the occasional play action pass where he slips out of the backfield. Rarely takes handoffs. Is a lunchpail guy. Reminds me of Billy Greene….

Big commits and two stars...

I for one as am excited as I have ever been about a MSU recruiting class.

I am also hopeful that MSU is finding the underrated guys that are either late bloomers or just plain underscouted by the big services. Just remember, Kirk Cousins was a Scout 2-star, with only offers from MSU, Western Michigan, Toledo, and Colorado…

Gholston on WDFN

Gholston on WDFN

Big prizes almost all landed...

Gholston, Mylan Hicks, Isaiah Lewis. Skyler Schofner was a huge commit that got overshadowed by the Rather Hall events.

Still waiting on Max Bullough. Any word on whether he is signed or if they are just waiting for NLI to be validated? (No access to Twitter feed either. Curse you NETCOM!)

max bullough...

…is already enrolled in classes. no worries about whether he will commit today. same with joe boisture, nick hill, and leveon bell.

Thanks, I see where Rivals shows the early enrollees.

…Scout doesn’t indicate the early enrollees on their summary page.

Solid Recruiting Class

I continue to wonder if MSU, a school one could argue was WR U over the decade preceding the current coach, is not getting the WRs necessary to run Dantonio’s offense? Mostly, I’m wondering where the big, possession Plaxico-type guy is. I know that you can’t expect to have a guy like him every year, but we really need better play out of the receivers, especially with how good Cousins was able to look this year.

I really like the class though. MSU’s d-line and linebacking is going to terrify people in the years to come. Can’t wait to see all of these guys in action.
