NCAA Tournament Day Two Open Thread

Well, today's probably not going to top yesterday in terms of excitement, but there's still 16 games to be played, not to mention MSU-New Mexico State.  If you want to watch the games online, the widget below will launch CBS's player:

Just click on the game you want to see, and if CBS isn't showing it in your area, you'll be able to watch it.  Here's the link if you want a larger version of the player in another window:  Launch Player

There'll most likely be a separate game thread for the Michigan State game.  As for now, sit back and enjoy!

MoJo

I am rooting for a big game by MoJo against Syracuse, like say 10 out of 15 from three. It would not bother me in the least if the ‘Cuse became the first #1 seed to lose in the first round. Then Boeheim could say in his press conference "They’re much better than a 16 seed." Of course, if that happened I would lose the satisfaction of watching the Zags’ big men punish what’s left of Syracuse’s interior defense while Matt Bouldin went nuts from the perimeter in round two. At some point one would think that the Worldwide Leader would stop fellating the Big East every winter. Or not.

Minny playing good

getting a 11-6 win to start the day would be great for the Big Ten

But I’ll take a Minnesota upset.

Ive got two brackets in my money pool

one with X in the FF and one with Minny winning two games. Both are so jacked at this point im just rooting for Big Ten and Upsets

Minny and Xavier tied at halftime

I’ll give the X men credit – they don’t seem like they are going to be out-physicaled in this game. They are willing to bang down low and then some.

I'm all for the B10

but I had X in both my brackets. Minny was too streaky this year

by my2fish on Mar 19, 2010 1:28 PM CDT up reply actions

too bad.

i stopped watching so that i could watch cornell and temple. iverson was huge in the first half. i am not relishing the thought of playing against him the next two years.

I dont get why Tubby would leave Minny for Auburn

Seems like a step down

Chance to beat Kentucky on a regular basis?

I mean when the eventual scandal/vacating/probation hits in Coach Cal’s wake.

ACcording to Seth Davis..

Tubby’s name will be floated a lot because everyone knows he is not thrilled at Minn.

They have not built a practice facility and Tubby feels school did not back him re players who got in trouble. But his price tag is HIGH.

Purdue is terrible..

Sienna runs a zone… and Purdue’s response is to have 3 guards on the floor passing the ball around who can’/won’tt take an outside shot. Just awful.

by MooTheKow on Mar 19, 2010 1:54 PM CDT reply actions

So...

Apparently having 3 super stellar players and no supporting cast can make for a really good team. Having two super stellar players and no supporting cast makes for an absolutely wretched team.

by MooTheKow on Mar 19, 2010 2:04 PM CDT reply actions

The problem seems to be the transition from A to B

No one can figure out their new roles, including the two remaining stars.

Other factor

Robbie Hummel makes his teammates quite a bit better. I have a hard time putting my finger on how/why, but it seems pretty clear at this point. Part of it is he just always makes the right pass, keeping the offense in a constructive flow.

If Wisconsin loses this one my bracket is screwed, but on the plus side Bo’s “Mr. February” nickname will stick around for another year.

They would break glass slippers in the most painful way possible.

by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 19, 2010 4:07 PM CDT reply actions

Badgers are very lucky

Wofford missed a ton of free throws and UW got a few iffy calls towards the very end.

Note to everyone

If I ever get as petulant as a lot of the Purdue fans are right now, just do me in. I swear, I don’t see how a team’s fanbase can be as cocky as they are right now after just getting past a 13 seed.

by Pete Rossman on Mar 19, 2010 4:21 PM CDT reply actions

It's more throwing it in the face of the media

than it is cocky.

For a week all that was said was that Purdue was losing. There wasn’t even a conversation with a maybe in there, they were losing. But they won, and now the Purdue fans want to throw that in the face of the national media.

by AustinP0027 on Mar 19, 2010 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Uh...

Can you blame them? Purdue played one of the worst halves of basketball all time last Saturday. Good for the Boilermakers for winning, but it’s not like their lack of confidence was unfounded.

by Pete Rossman on Mar 19, 2010 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

One half vs a season

Yes. We played a horrible half. At the same time, Minnesota played an amazing one.

But can you truly judge a team based on a single half? To say that a 14 seed is going to beat a 4 seed based on a single game seems a bit of an overreaction.

If there had been more conversations about a “possible” upset, I think people wouldn’t be as fired up. But it wasn’t even a possibility in almost all of the media that Purdue could win.

How would you feel if they said the same thing about Michigan State after the Purdue game and the thirty some turnovers? It’s one thing to lose confidence, it’s another to all but guarantee a loss based on a single game.

by AustinP0027 on Mar 19, 2010 4:40 PM CDT up reply actions

On an unrelated note...

Go MSU tonight.

Other than Minnesota, I have the Big 10 teams all moving on at least one game. (I think I have Wisc losing after their first game)

by AustinP0027 on Mar 19, 2010 4:41 PM CDT up reply actions

It wasn't just a single half

It was the way Purdue lost to MSU at Mackey, how they got overpowered on the boards. I think the Boilermakers and Spartans are a lot alike now that you’ve lost Robbie – teams that can turn it on at times, but still go through periods where they look lost on the court. The lack of intensity showed up in the Minnesota and MSU games for Purdue, and it’s been a constant problem for MSU this season.

What I’m saying is that there’s always going to be people who doubt your team, and I just feel there’s more pride in enjoying the win for the team than at crowing at some talking heads that you might never meet.

But nice win for Purdue today, and thanks for the Big Ten support.

Nice win by the Boilers, though. Well done.
