As one of the not-so Big East's three surviving teams,
Syracuse is definitely taking it to Gonzaga. The Orange have gone 12-24 from downtown as I type this. Still, I am unconvinced after the collapse of Gtown, Villanova, and Marquette to much lower seeded teams (Louisville got smashed in the 8-9 matchup) that the BE was the best conference evah. And it’s no given that Pitt and WVU will both advance to the second weekend.
It's not hard to figure out that, when a conference has 16 teams, some will be good, some will be mediocre, and some will be bad
But analysts always seem to fall over themselves when talking about the Big East.
They did it last year. They’re doing it again this year. Whatever.
Raymar vs. Vasquez
The more I think about this matchup, the more I like it for us. Still, would love to give him a couple different looks if Allen is able to go.
Lacy says Allen looks pretty comfortable in warmups, though

Looking good on the offensive glass, at least
But their pressure defense looks like it might give us some problems.

Great savvy by Morgan to go under him after the pump fake

Well
This is going well so far

7-2 run for the Terps right now.
On the whole, yes, but it’d be good to pick it up a bit.

Available to play, apparently
Hasn’t been in yet. Hasn’t even taken off his warmups yet.

Man....
If MSU was playing smarter they’d be up big by now. Doing lots of good things – but only thing preventing them from going all Syracuse on them is themselves.
Well no lead is safe with this team
They’ll always find a way to make it closer than it has to be. Good thing we’ve got a guy whose pretty clutch at the end.

Hope these freebees get Lucas going
He’s been quiet. Hopefully he’s just waiting for the second half to take control.
That was out off Thronton
But Nix got fouled about 3 times in there so we’ll call it even

We need to keep on going inside
Williams has to play soft defense because he can’t afford the 3rd foul.

9 point halftime lead. Very nice.
All depends on how Lucas is, but that’s a solid half. And 48 points! Unreal.

Wanna know why we're winning?
We’re rebounding 60% of our misses. I knew we’d have a rebounding advantage, but this is waaay above and beyond what I could have hoped for.

Especially if Lucas is out
by Chris in Kzoo on Mar 21, 2010 2:31 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
I'm kind of warming to Thornton
He’s looking better than he did earlier this year and seems to have confidence in his 3 point shot. Would not mind seeing him soak up some minutes in the second half if Lucas is done.
Not sure we can pull this off if Kalin is out for the half
Light a man a fire, he'll stay warm for a day.
Light a man afire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Agreed
Tough to depend on KL2, but he seemed to step up last half. Time to find out what he’s made of.
KL2 scares me every time he dribbles...
feel like he can/will turn it over at any moment.
Especially with that press
Wonder if we’ll see a lot of Day Day/ Thorton/ Raymar helping him to clear it
Kebler will use his magic elfin powers
to see us through
by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 21, 2010 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions
If Lucas is done, offense must run through Raymar and Draymond.

I still expected more of Wisconsin though.
by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 21, 2010 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions
Cornell dropped 43 on the Badgers in a half
Don’t know the possessions, but that’s sure to be some serious scoring.
No second half doldrums please
Lets just make an early run and salt this one away. We’re overdue for an easy win, aren’t we?
Second half doldrums? I can think of a time or two....
Oh.. easy wins. That’s nothing to count on, for sure.

Bad news
I guess it’s more than a cramp. We may be able to gut this one out without him but I’m not sure we’ll fare all that well if he and Allen can’t go next week.
by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 21, 2010 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions
Not worried about next week.
Very worried about this half if Kalin can’t play.
PP-TPW.

I'm not saying I'm not worried about this half.
Just hoping we can get past them going down low.

yep.... KL2, what can you do for the team, us fans, and yourself?
be confident and show your excellence….., but be careful in passing…
Thanks to NMS, they will be pressed on every made basket now.
And without Lucas it is going to work.
From bad to worse:
@MSU_Basketball Kalin Lucas has a lower leg injury and he’s not expected to return for the second half.

There's some kind of mental hangup on the press.
if somehow they win I have a feeling this will be the point of emphasis this week.
extend the D
Why isn’t state responding to the press?

My god...
where has this Summers been all year? HE’s saving MSU so far.
The ability has always been there
That’s the frustrating thing. Sometimes the effort has been lacking but he’s really good when he is good.
by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 21, 2010 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions
Not sure if it has been mentioned
one way to stop the press is to not allow Maryland to make everything
by Chris in Kzoo on Mar 21, 2010 3:06 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
our strategy is simple....
1. inbound the ball safely
2. get the ball to summers
Or to Green at the top of the key
Good things happen when he gets the ball there.

again, stupid inbounding... morgan is at corner
don’t give him the balll at corner..
nowhere to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep rebounding score on two out of three possessions and we can pull this off.
And stay out on Hayes

So much for that "Bo Ryan for coach of the year" meme
Wake me when his team does something in March. When he’s had a good run, it’s been because of bracket collapse … and even that isn’t saving him this time.
5:30 min to go in the game to get msu to the sweet 16...
