MSU-UNI Open Thread

The first open thread got quite a bit of action.  So we'll start a new one for the MSU game.

Reported starting lineup is Lucious/Summers/Morgan/Roe/Nix.

Magic is in the house.

Let's Go State!

This is a FanPost, written by a member of the TOC community. It does not represent the official positions of The Only Colors, Inc.--largely because we have no official positions.

Lucious

has always been too quick to shoot. I realize I’m criticizing last game’s savior, but he has. And when he hits a three, the impulsiveness generally gets worse.

Dumbest rule change in the history of the NCAA

And that includes the clock rules that let Bielema run out thirty seconds to end the first half on a kickoff.

If there’s a “no charge” area on the court, mark it so the refs don’t have to guess. A five-year old could figure that out.

Yeah, he’ll make some changes. I think they’ll pound it inside with Green, Nix, Sherman, and Morgan. That’ll also help with the rebounding problems. I think they’ll play out on Summers since he’s hit a few 3’s, which should open up things down low.

Well, down 7 with 2 points from them = not a horrible situation. As long as they score in the second half, 7 points isn’t a big lead.

by SpartanBoiler on Mar 26, 2010 9:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Green and Morgan scoring more than 4 combined points in a game is a big assumption? I don’t think so.

It might be

against UNI’s bigs.

It's going to be a good night.

by Spartalytical on Mar 26, 2010 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Ok then

Maybe it’s a big assumption when you consider their bigs and how well they’re controlling the paint (possibly focusing more on Green with solid position defense) and Raymar’s oft-fragile psyche.

Can they come out with an effective plan and execute it? Of course they can. But something significant has to change before that’s even possible.

It's going to be a good night.

Lucious is the least of our problems

He’s played OK overall (bad decision on that break opportunity) but unless Morgan or Green can start giving us some balance in the scoring department we’re done for. We can’t rely exclusively on perimeter shooting.

by TheCrestedHelm on Mar 26, 2010 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Points off turnovers is really a poor stat in hoops

If you throw a bad pass and the other team inbounds at the far baseline and scores, what’s the difference between that and them inbounding after a missed shot and rebound that goes over the top?

Points off steals might be worth knowing. Points off turnovers is a silly stat.

by SpartanDan on Mar 26, 2010 9:37 PM CDT up reply actions

I assume it's points on possessions after a forced turnover

Which means random things like “they traveled, you inbounded at the other end and got a basket after 30 seconds of a set play” count.

Same thing with points off turnovers in football, too. If you fumble out the back of the end zone and the other team goes on an 80 yard drive, the turnover had very little to do with the score (though it did have plenty to do with you not scoring).
