Linking Laconically is Getting a Little Stir-Crazy
Butler preview coming later tonight or tomorrow morning. 70 hours to tipoff!
Note: there are about a million and a half "OMG IZZO'S TEH GR8EST EVAH" stories on the internets at the moment, approximately a million of which you've already read. So, we'll skip them (well, most of them) for now. And, onto the links:

"Butler stands out not because they use this tempo-free stuff but because their head coach has stated publicly and repeatedly that he uses this stuff. Moreover, Stevens all but shrugs as he says it: Why would you not use accurate information on your opponent? You will see that shrug more and more often as basketball people in Stevens’ age cohort ascend to head coaching positions. Accurate information is simply what they’re used to now." If they weren't, you know, the enemy, they'd be pretty easy to root for.

"Oren’s first choice would be to stay at Michigan State and be on the football team in the fall," [Wilson's attorney] Abood said. A few quick responses
First, Tim Bograkos probably has the greatest blog title ever. “The Big Peplowski” would have been second.
Second, if I hear much more about how much Stevens values tempo-free stats I’m going to start wondering who KJ will be rooting for on Saturday. I hope Green is thicker than tempo. :p
The NYT article is a nice one
Focusing just on the ‘tape’ guys – the army of assistants who edit game film. This is one of the less obvious aspects of the program that makes it so strong.
Peplowski was really tall
I always felt really tiny whenever he got in the elevator with me (we lived in the same dorm) and I’m 6’3"…..
I'm 6'6" with a fairly burly build
and I lived in Case Hall, where lots of the football players live. On Friday nights in the fall, people on the elevator would say to me, “good luck tomorrow.” I would always think, "yeah, I’ll cheer really hard . . . "

The Only Colors
Haven't read any of the stories yet,
but I have to say the Billy Madison reference is perfect. Overall, that is very underused quote from the movie.
Moving on, I’ve been wondering during our run how useful the tempo-free numbers are right now. Before I get run off this site, think about how different our team has looked over the past two weeks. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember seeing all those three pointers going up (and half of them made) by Summers during the Big Ten season. As a former engineer I love data more than normal people, but the team I’ve been watching seems to be quite different than the one that won the Big Ten a month ago. Obviously, Kalin’s injury has played a role, but it was the same with last year’s team too. A comparison of our Big Ten and tournament numbers would be very telling.
Was thinking this morning about doing something along those lines
We’ll see if I get to it. Otherwise, [cough] FanPost [cough].

Scary section from that first link
“How many Butler games do we have in the computer,’’ Izzo asks.
“Seven,’’ Ott says. "You said you wanted losses, but they haven’t lost since Dec. 22.’’
Izzo nods his head.
“I don’t think we can go back that far,’’ he replies.

Two Words:
Horizon League. Damn near guarantee that if this MSU team were in the Horizon league they would have a very long win streak as well.
Butler also beat Ohio State (by 8)
Northwestern, Xavier, and UCLA. They got beat by 4 NCAA tourney teams, and, oddly, UAB (who did make it to the NIT third round before falling to UNC). So they played, and beat, some good teams.
But yeah, your point is well-taken: the only other decent team in that league this year is Wright State (Pomeroy #67), which is about where Michigan ended up, for comparison’s sake.
