Game Thread: Big Ten Title or Bust

Michigan Wolverines at Michigan St. Spartans, Mar 7, 2010 3:00 PM CST

(And by "Bust," I mean "a loss that would have epically disastrous consequences for the psyches of both the Michigan State basketball team and its fans.")

Mrs. KJ and I are headed to Breslin to take in the biggest MSU-UM game (from our end at least) since--well, since I don't know when.

Let's bring it boys.  Suffocate Manny and DeShawn.  Close out hard on Zack and Stu.  Get the ball to Raymar and Day Day in the lane.  Crash the boards with abandon.

Go State.  Beat Michigan.

Sloppy

Ran out of room on the fast break.

YES

GREAT second chance basket by Delvon.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 3:28 PM CST reply actions

I *love* the offensive gameplan

Keep taking it inside. They can’t guard us there.

That was a fantastic 4 minutes or so.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 3:33 PM CST reply actions

FLUSH!

This is looking good so far.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:33 PM CST reply actions

I want a Dahlmancam!

All his reactions are great! I love his intensity. I wish there was a picture-in-picture that just stayed on him on the bench.

Michigan's 3s aren't falling

And when their 3s aren’t falling, this is what happens to them.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:36 PM CST reply actions

That last offensive possession pretty much illustrates our MO so far.

Allen had a decent look early in the shot clock, but he pulled it back, dumped it inside, and we ended up with the layup on the rebound. Fantastic.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 3:36 PM CST reply actions

Tripling up.

Morgan’s leading Michigan by two.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:38 PM CST reply actions

This is how you defend.

Absolutely beautiful. Whatever pep talk the guys got today, I hope Izzo has it written down for the next few weeks.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:43 PM CST reply actions

Horrible call.

The ball was well off the rim when Summers got to it.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:48 PM CST reply actions

What the heck was that pass?

Threw it into the middle of six guys, four wearing the wrong jersey.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:54 PM CST reply actions

There is no reason to ever do a jump pass in the backcourt when you're not being pressed.

I’d ask what he was thinking, but there might be a faulty assumption involved in that question.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

A little surprised they let that go ...

Shot clock went off way before we got the ball.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:57 PM CST reply actions

I don't much like that rule

I’d rather they play on if the ball is clearly coming to the non-violating team. But that isn’t the rule, and the refs blew that one.

Nice to see the other team get Hightowered for once.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

Wow, they gave it to him.

Don’t think that was the right call, but works for me.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

Best half of the season?

I don’t think there’s any question.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:02 PM CST reply actions

Seth Davis's tweet

SethDavisHoops Just 3 top 50 wins. Have em as a 5. RT @mherek: Seriously @SethDavisHoops? How is Michigan State not even worthy of a 4 seed in your world?

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:23 PM CST up reply actions

We are just abusing them in the paint

Sloppy plays like that are the only reason this game isn’t an epic 2000-style beating.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:20 PM CST reply actions

it's about time

I’ve been waiting for dominant all season…..hope they keep on the gas…..

by mmwhitman on Mar 7, 2010 4:22 PM CST up reply actions

Intentional foul

Two shots for Lucas and the ball.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:21 PM CST reply actions

LOL

Intentional foul. Do we get to have this argument again?

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:22 PM CST reply actions

How many three's have we taken?

I love that we’re letting Raymar, draymond and Nix go until they’re stopped down low

by dcspartan1 on Mar 7, 2010 4:23 PM CST reply actions

Isaiah Dahlman alley-oop.

This is the greatest game ever.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:24 PM CST reply actions

Man...

Wish MSU hadn’t waited until the last game of the season to start playing like this :-)

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 4:28 PM CST reply actions

I'm really speechless about this.

Other than to say that this is rock bottom for Michigan.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:33 PM CST reply actions

Defense seems to be letting up a bit

Either Michigan finally figured out something, or the guys are thinking they could watch Michigan in the layup line the rest of the day and still win.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:35 PM CST reply actions

Raymar went to the bench..

Same thing happened in the first half when they went up 17 for the first time too didn’t it?

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 4:38 PM CST up reply actions

Foul before the shot

Not much of one, and it would have been another foul on the shot if Hightower had been decidedly unHightower and let the first one go.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:38 PM CST reply actions

Aaaaaaaaaand MSU letting up big time...

making stupid plays on offense and forgetting to defend… disappointing… would like to see a stellar 40 minute effort without these lulls.

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 4:43 PM CST reply actions

In fairness ...

… it’s not easy to focus when you’re up 20+.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:44 PM CST up reply actions

Touche...

Senior night trying to make a statement and win the big ten over your rival… what more could you need to be focused for 40 minutes? :-).

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

Wish hockey could claim the same

But since they play at least 4 times a year (often 5 or 6 thanks to the GLI and conference tourney), it’s harder to keep a streak like that going.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 4:47 PM CST up reply actions

They gave us a break

Sherman did it on the one before too, but they didn’t call it.

by Con-T on Mar 7, 2010 4:55 PM CST up reply actions

It's good that we have a 23 point lead

Because an inbounds violation is pretty much inexcusable.

by LVS on Mar 7, 2010 4:53 PM CST reply actions

Man...

getting less embarassing :-(. They keep letting UM score…

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 4:56 PM CST reply actions

+1

Kid doesn’t need minutes the rest of the year :-). Nix is heads and shoulders above him at this point.

by MooTheKow on Mar 7, 2010 5:01 PM CST up reply actions

The gap is closing.

On the scoreboard. Not so much anywhere else.

by Stuka on Mar 7, 2010 5:02 PM CST reply actions

Hightower Whistlemania again

This game doesn’t need to drag on any longer. Just long enough for Morgan, Crandall, and Dahlman to kiss the S.

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 5:03 PM CST reply actions

I really believe that if Herzog wasn't planning on being back

he would have organized to participate in Senior Day. But who knows.

by intrpdtrvlr on Mar 7, 2010 5:07 PM CST up reply actions

Really, Michigan?

The press when you’re down 19 in the final minute?

by SpartanDan on Mar 7, 2010 5:12 PM CST reply actions

Flags fly forever.

Well done, gentlemen. Well done.
