Trey Zeigler to announce his decision tomorrow.
[LVS EDIT: Today, Zeigler tweeted that he'll be announcing his decision tomorrow, and signing a letter of intent on Thursday.]
[Bumped. Wednesday is the official start of the late signing period. Dylan has more on Zeigler-related events--including a tweet from Zeigler himself basically saying he hasn't decided yet. -KJ]
Not much real information yet but Drew Ellis, who writes for The Morning Sun ("serving Clare, Isabella, and Gratiot countries") has followed up his recent blog concerning the finalizing of Ernie Zeigler's contract extension by stating that 2010 MI SG Trey Zeigler will make his announcement next week. Every reason to believe he got that information directly from the Zeigler camp. Are these two pieces of news related? Time will tell. More details (date? location?) should follow soon.
What does this mean for MSU? The wise money has always been on CMU and Zeigler playing for his father. Most bloggers and commentators are stating that UM and CMU are the two likely destinations. However, MSU fans have heard that one before. Remember when Adreian Payne was down to UK and WVU?
Still, I wouldn't get your custom "32 Zeigler" MSU jersey printed yet. First, Keith Appling might already have that number. Second, this would be quite the unexpected coup for Tom Izzo as MSU has long been considered a darkhorse.
Luckily, MSU has the luxury of viewing Zeigler as just that - a luxury. 2011 and 2012 recruiting are in great shape even if Zeiger passes. On the flip, he would be a game-changer for CMU and a program-saver(?) for UM. UCLA and ASU are also believed to be in the mix.
This will end what feels like one of the longest public recruitments in MSU history

Honestly....
You have to wonder what’s going on in the kid’s head to draw out the recruitment like that. Obviously he’s not a kid who is exactly stoked over the chance to play for MSU – which makes me curious about Izzo going after him. Seems he is usually more about the types of kids who really want to play for him.
I don't know...
…I think any time a kid’s got his dad’s team involved in the mix; maybe tradition-rich UCLA and sunny Southern California; maybe a place like UM where you can be the program’s latest savior, I’m sure it is incredibly tough. An eighteen-year-old kid with those options laid before him is probably wise to take his time. It’s not often in one’s life you get wooed like this, and it is hard to begrudge him weighing, even savoring, the decision. I’m sure the big question at MSU is playing time and the somewhat crowded—at least for now—backcourt. Sure, I’d love for him to come to MSU (as would Izzo), but I wish him luck, whatever he chooses.

Open Slot?
As widely reported, unless someone declares for the draft or Herzog decides to hang up the sneakers, there just is not a scholarship available for Mr. Zeigler at MSU. There are only 13 scholarships available to Division I basketball teams, so it seems a rather moot point even with Thornton going off athletic scholarship next season.
Zeigler has said Izzo has a spot for him
Of course, that may have changed, but even when the source of the scholarship was a complete mystery, TZ stated publicly that Izzo told him there’s a place. Most people assumed that Herzog had one foot out the door. Also, my hunch is that Herzog has participated in his last season in uniform but we’ll see. Now, you can take TZ potentially verballing before this situation is resolved as a sign if you like. It’s not beyond the realm.
Again, my money is on CMU all the way.
Zeigler announces tomorrow.

The Only Colors
This whole recruitment has been drama to the last.
Twists! Turns! Surprises! Guest stars (Duke!)!
I’m totally ready for him to announce he’s attending Kent State University and flip off the camera while saying “Ernie, this is for you!”
I'm so glad I don't have to follow recruiting drama anymore
Since you pretty much do it for all of us.
All over the place now
Freep, Morning Sun, Rivals. Book it – Trey Zeigler to CMU. Not unexpected. Bring on Branden Dawson and Jeremiah Davis!
Zeigler and Appling
Doesn’t Greg Kelser have a lock on those custom 32 jerseys?
True that

Haha, of course
“Duh” on me. If you want a “double duh,” Zeigler already said he’s going with “0” in college. Slipped my mind. Oh well.
