The interesting bit of the talk about the Big 10/ACC challenge was the idea that whomever among the OSU, Purdue, MSU group who doesn’t go to Duke will probably get Maryland. Might the solar system-wide leader (don’t hide your light under a bushel, ESPN) prefer to sell a Spartans-Terps rematch of the great tourney game? At the link, Bob Baptist says none of the big three have ever played Maryland in the challenge.
I tend to think OSU will likely get pushed down the list, with Purdue getting to go to Duke and MSU getting Maryland.
Also, I caught one of the ‘Big Life, Big Stage, Big Ten’ ads on BTN featuring an MSU golfer (whose name I don’t remember, making the spot difficult to find on the web on I’d be somewhat non-laconically linking to it) and she relates that her recruitment to MSU involved coming to campus, meeting the golf coaches and a 45-minute chat with Tom Izzo. So, Izzo was recruiting for the women’s golf team in his abundant spare time. If we needed a somewhat odd off-seaons reminder of the awesomeness of Izzo, here we are. That sure seems like a guy who’s very giving of his time and very much about helping MSU in all ways. Or, just what we’ve always seen from Izzo.
