Saginaw High coach Lou Dawkins may have predicted it last September but Jalen Reynolds is the hot name in Michigan basketball recruiting this summer.  He is a long, 6’9" forward who has received excellent scouting reports from ESPN and our buddies over at UMHoops.  He’s described as having a combination of size and quickness that makes him a tough match-up on either end of the court.  Both sources say that Reynolds is a significant scoring threat and plays with a high level of energy.

Here is the ESPN take:

April, 2010: Reynolds is a long and wiry power forward with good skill. He can hit mid range jumpers with regularity and attack the rim from the high post or short corner. He scores with not only his good athletic ability but with his excellent length. Reynolds runs the floor extremely well and can beat less mobile post down the floor for easy baskets on a regular basis. Reynolds will need to add strength but does a great job on the glass on both ends of the floor. He rebounds with two hands and never lost the ball in traffic. Reynolds looks to screen for on the ball where he can roll or pop. On the offensive end he is active as well and a constant threat for an athletic tips in. Reynolds is productive and seems to be a good team player although I would like to see him demand the ball more because he could easily add to his already nice stat lines. Defensively Reynolds is a major factor as well. He hustles and covers ground like a small forward. He works to contest shots on the ball or helping a teammate. Reynolds good talent and great upside. This young forward could be a sleeper in the class of 2011. One to watch.

As you can guess from the links, the University of Michigan is giving Reynolds a lot of attention and he has spoken about wanting to stay close to home (MSU/UM) for college.  At the same time, Jalen is courting interest from other Midwest schools like Xavier, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and Ohio.  MSU has been in contact but it’s unclear how high Reynolds might climb up Coach Izzo’s priority list.  If you follow in-state basketball recruiting, this is a name to know.

Here's some videos where you can see him in action, on and off the court.
