"It's not true. That's just a rumor," Janice said of Chris leaving the program. "He will definitely be at Michigan State next year."

"You think our war drill is something now. Next year is going to be fist fighting."- Tom Izzo

who else
Could it be? Seems like everyone would want to come back and contend for a title next year. Sherman is the only one that kind of makes sense but I don’t think he’s far behind where Goran was after his freshman year. I could see both he and Nix on the court without much problem. Genuinely stumped.

Cool
An old-school news story with a quoted source and everything. . .

Good to hear
Chris is a solid player who would be foolish to transfer.
He will only be a better player next year and is needed.
Lucious
FWIW, I still think Izzo was speaking of Lucious who might be pondering the Doug Davis model.
Why would Korie bounce? I’ve heard this, but I haven’t heard any reason or whatever to back up this theory and it frustrates me to no end.
perhaps
it’s having a mcdonalds all american coming in and he is worried about his pt getting ate away at
Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's still plenty of meat on that bone. Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you've got a stew going.
At MSU, Korie is destined to be a 3 yr backup with no starting guarantee for year 4. After the success he had when Lucas was hurt, why wouldn’t he think he could get start and get 30+ minutes on a different team? Of course, he could be happy being a part of the program and contributing to another final four run despite being a part-time player. I have no insight either way but when I read Izzo’s comments, it makes more sense to me that he means Lucious than Allen. Allen transferring after his 3rd year makes no sense, especially since he seemed to finally embrace the system this year (ie play defense) and will continue to play significant minutes next year. On the other hand, Lucious also spent time in the dog house and will only surpass 20 minutes a game if there are injuries to other perimeter players (I’m assuming the following perimeter distribution: Lucas 32 minutes; Allen 27 minutes; Summers 26 minutes; Appling 15 minutes; Lucious 20 minutes; With all of the big guys, I suspect Green will get some time at the 3 as well which would mostly impact Lucious minutes).
disagree, kind of
Your minutes are about right, though they assume noone gets hurt, Appling is as good as advertised and Lucas is his old self immediately. Even then, it remains true that Lucious is the only pure point guard on the team, so he must be thinking if he improves a bit, he could get even more minutes.
To me, a Lucious departure makes no sense. If he wants to play in the NBA, he’s better off in a big program. If he wants to play in Europe (a more realistic goal), MSU has a great track record of placing kids who were solid but not stars. If he is not thinking about the pros, but wants to maximize his fun over the next two years, surely 20 minutes a night but long runs in March and huge exposure on TV is better than 30 minutes a night on a mediocre team that does not make the big dance.
lucious in March
How could Lucious not be totally jazzed about next year? He strutted his stuff, hit crucial shots, and was on network highlight shows all during March madness. To be sure, he also made mistakes and must know there are certain things he needs to work on, but how could he not see this as a winnable challenge? The comparison with Joseph or Davis makes no sense to me; those guys were basically pretty sure their time on the court would whittle down to 3-5 minutes a game max. No matter how good Appling is, Lucious will get 20 minutes a game, even if he does not improve, and there are no injuries to other returning back court players.
My guess is maybe Sherman will transfer....
…With Nix playing well and Payne coming in he may want to move on.
Grain of salt
I am taking this news with a grain of salt until I have a quoted story from Izzo or Allen.
