Izzo continues to build his legend at MSU
Bumped, if only for definitive answers to Chris Allen's situation - Pete
Good article with Izzo discussing his commitment to winning another championship at MSU before he'd consider the NBA. It includes some quick quotes and takes on Roe, Lucas, and Summers.
Rumor mill bonus - Izzo actually responds to a question on-the-record about Chris Allen, saying "Nothing has happened yet..He's on a short leash. He has some growing up to do. There were times I didn't know if he wanted to be here.''

Kremlinology
I think this whole Chris Allen thing is starting to turn me into a Kremlinologist (Breslinologist?). This is what the State Department would do when the complete lack of reliable information forced them to read way too much into the few shreds of data they did have. As in: “Kosygin is standing on Brezhnev’s left during the May Day parade but he was on his right for Red Army Day. That must mean that his industrial reform policies have become discredited and we can expect a more centralized economy.” In this way I found myself stewing over Izzo’s statement that “nothing has happened yet”. No decision has been made? By Allen? Izzo? Is he saying he expects something to happen? He doesn’t know? Arrrgh. I think the sports-deprivation of the summer is starting to get to me. . .

Tea/sanity leaves
I think (oh man, here we go) what it implies is this – Allen has it within his power to remain on the team. Izzo doesn’t believe Allen is out of the woods in earning his keep and demonstrating his dedication. If he disappoints Izzo, he could still be let go. Izzo is hopeful that it won’t be necessary. That’s my take.
I think the decision has always been about whether Izzo will let him stay, not whether Allen “wants to transfer.” That’s why all the talk about “Why would CA leave? That doesn’t make any sense” is a non-starter. Consider the “leash” line. This isn’t about Izzo convincing or asking Allen to stay.

Rexrode's take

I imagine Joe knows more than he’s comfortable putting on the record so I think you can take it to the bank when he says
And it reiterates something that should have been clear from those first comments: This decision is just as much — if not more — Izzo’s than anyone else’s.
Pretty much backs up the impression I’ve been under.
If that is the case
wouldn’t you guess there’s much better odds of Allen staying with the team than leaving?
It's pretty clear from the quote
as others have already noted, that Allen did something to make Izzo question his commitment to the team. It does not sound like Allen wants to transfer. It’s clear that he needs to keep his ducks in a row or Izzo might “recommend” that he find another place to play ball. I’ve always liked Allen as a player and hope he does what he needs to stay with the team.
Sounds like the Roe surgery was no big deal, so hopefully he’ll be able to get in a full off-season of practice this year. I hope Lucas makes a full recovery. It sounds like things are going as well as could be expected, but I have no idea what the prognosis for a full “back to pre-injury effectiveness” recovery from something like and achilles tear is, especially for someone who relies on his quickness so much. Hopefully he’ll be back at full strength eventually, because it would really suck if that injury affects his potential as a pro.
