Cavs confirm contact with Izzo - NBA - SI.com
No new information coming out of the Cavs' press conference: We knew Cleveland had talked to Izzo. We still have no idea what LeBron thinks about all this. (It appears that the Cavs' statement that they are not in consultation with James is genuine.)
Of course, in the minute-by-minute news cycle of 2010, every development that doesn't beat back the idea this is a real possibility makes it feel that much more real.
Stay tuned.

No worries
Some guy from tRCMB called “Da Chocolate Monk” says we have nothing to worry about.
Sweet.
Doesn't make me feel better
But it doesn’t make me feel a lot worse either. Nothing that sends a message that Izzo is clearly leaving or clearly staying.
Bullets I thought were of importance:
Hollis confirmed that this process began about a week ago- I think this confirms that he is seriously thinking this over, but at this point that isn’t new.
He said the media has overhyped the report “a bit” with weird emphasis on “a bit” when he said. To me it said the reports on the contract offer aren’t entirely accurate, but they are pretty darn close.
Although Hollis later re-iterates that from his knowledge there has not been an official contract offer. I think Rexrode’s take on this from this morning is right that Hollis might be playing it a little coy with this in that Izzo doesn’t have a contract in hand, but that terms have been discussed.
The quote in the story is accurate, about Hollis having to ensure that MSU is in good shape going forward. It didn’t imply to me that he was doing this because he thinks Izzo is definitely leaving. Basically he’s fulfilling his responsibility to be prepared, just like Izzo is fulfilling his responsibility to weigh this carefully.
Simonson stresses that he hears “concern” out of Hollis. I think that’s a fair way to describe it.
Izzo is really seriously considering this, it’s not the slam dunk that we all hoped for when this story broke for him to stay.
At the end Hollis hints at the end that from his perspective everything with the program and with compensation with Tom is in good shape.
To me this says, this could be about money for Izzo, but it’s not about Izzo getting more money out of the university. If it has to do with money it would be about him making a career move to an employer that can afford to pay him more.
Hollis said Izzo hasn’t given him a timeline on making a decision.
I don’t know that a lot has changed. I think a lot of it still depends on Lebron. If he said he was playing for the Cavs I think Izzo would be more likely to go than stay. If he doesn’t get any type of signal from lebron I think he’s slightly more likely to stay, say 60/40. If this plays out until July (not sure I will be able to take it) and Lebron signs elsewhere I think Izzo is like 85/15 to come back.
Thanks. Appreciate it.

Oh for it to be a week ago
when all we had to worry about was Allen’s potential ship-jumping.
It's going to be a good night.
I miss that
Really, worrying about Appling’s potential minutes with/without Allen on the roster was so much easier on the psyche.
No way he goes without LeBron
If LeBron does re-sign with them, though … now we’re talking panic time.
Some goodish news
ESPN bottom line just scrolled that Chris Broussard reported the Cavs are also reaching out to Jeff Van Gundy and Byron Scott.
Confirms what Gilbert said in his presser, but nice to hear some other names associated with this job. Plus as much as we all love Izzo. Van Gundy has been to the Finals, Byron Scott has won 50 games. You could make a pretty good case that they are stronger candidates than Izzo is.
Clinging to this too
I’ve been reading different exerpts from the press conference and Grant definitely wanted to get across that Izzo was far from the only option. Whether that’s legitimate at face value or smoke and mirrors, it’s anyone’s guess. I’m trying to believe it’s the former.
It's going to be a good night.

I certainly believe it's true
Before the Izzo talk started, I think Byron Scott was one of, if not the, frontrunner. JVG is a possibility, too.
Whether or not Gilbert/Grant sees them as better options than Izzo is unclear.
