"Look at Michigan State,'' one coach said. "They're there every year. When you see the dips, then you wonder. What happened? What didn't happen? But a guy like Tom Izzo, he's there every year because you know what his program is about and so do his players. There's a consistency and an integrity.''

Recruiting and Izzo
On another site, I’ve allowed myself to get suckered into one of those “Izzo needs to start recruiting [blank] type of guys,” “the problem with our recruiting is…” and “we can’t win a national championship because we don’t recruit [blank]” threads.
MSU is one of the top three basketball programs in the country, no questions asked. I think Izzo handles things as well as a imperfect human being can in terms of how he recruits and builds the program. I wouldn’t trade it for the Calipari model in a million years even if it means missing out on the hot, new rising elite player out of Chicago. Quotes like this are a great reminder of what we have and shouldn’t take for granted.
Note to anyone who writes on dirty recruiting
When you write “everyone does it” stop yourself. As a fan of a clean program, it’s insulting to be lumped in with UConn or Kentucky.
Light a man a fire, he'll stay warm for a day.
Light a man afire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Props to Izzo and the other Big 10 coaches
Izzo should take this article into every kid’s home that he recruits and show it to their parents. That is really high praise coming from his peers!
Go Green! Doing things the right way!
And I’m glad our conference has a good reputation. The fact that guys like Clem Haskins and Kelvin Sampson were dismissed with quickness and prejudice once they were caught doing dirty stuff really speaks to the level of integrity expected within our league.
