No Final Four, but Allen gets fresh start - Beyond the Arc - NBC Sports
Nice piece on Allen's arrival at Iowa State. Also see here.
This has been covered in the comments section of the last post, but I think it merits being said on the front page: This has been a truly remarkable team/player break-up. Allen clearly did something egregious enough that his relationship with the coach and/or team couldn't be fully repaired, but at the same time you have everyone involved saying nothing but nice things about each other in a clearly sincere tone.
Chris Allen: (if #msu makes run in tourney) "I will be all for it — I will be somewhere watching in my #msu stuff"
As I commented in the other thread, you really can’t overstate what an effective, classy manager of personnel Tom Izzo is.
Again, best wishes to Allen in his new home. We'll be watching and rooting for him.

weird
I know, I know, it’s great that there is not a ton of acrimony. But when a 21 year old college student sounds like one of the Stepford wives, it does creep me out a bit.
Ha
That’d be the less positive spin on thing.

To me, it all fits
I think Allen knew what the expectations were and didn’t/wasn’t able to meet them. Izzo said over and over that he needed to grow up more and ultimately decided that a change of scenery would help. My guess is that the realization that his time at MSU was over and it was his own fault was the very first step and the moment CA really started to take the emotional steps that Izzo called for. In that light, his positive attitude doesn’t shock me. Looks like Izzo knew exactly what he was doing and Allen even begrudgingly agreed with the call.
I know that’s some psycho-babbling but it all holds together for me.
More in the spirit of Anderlecht’s spin, if Chris did do something(s) big to screw up and Izzo has been guarding his privacy, what incentive would he have to make a scene and throw some mud? I bet Chris Allen loses that PR battle.

Not so sure I am comfortable with this quote:
He’s trying to make the best of his new home – even if he will miss out on the Final Four.
Kansas was supposed to be the best team in the country with a Final Four appearance painted in last year. Kentucky too. They both watched on TV. While we have the talent, coaching and experience to reach the Final Four, nothing is guaranteed.
I never want to be one of those fans or a member of one of “those” fan bases that consider Final Fours and NC’s a birthright or entitlement. Statements like that lead to anything but a FF or NC as being a disappointment.
Are we there? IS our expectation this season a NC game appearance?
Yeah, a NC game appearance IS our expectation this season
And its the player’s expectation, too. Lucas, Summers, Green, Roe, even Luscious are all on record as stating this year is a title or bust. With the level this program has risen to, us fans are correct to have high expectations this season, too.
Let’s go State!!

There's a difference
“Those” fan bases expect it whether they have the talent or not. Expecting it every year is unreasonable; given our talent this year, it is a reasonable expectation this year.
Well said Dan
I hope people took the “this year” from my post, while having an expectation at a Final 4 every season would border on delusional, I think we can all agree the tea leaves are in our favor for this upcoming season.
But expectations, projections, etc really mean nothing when it’s all said & done – that’s why they play the games!
Chris Hill
Not that I make a habit of following UM’s preseason hoops European tour, but it’s nice to see that even after being out of MSU for several years, Chris Hill is still helping to but a beating on UM.
