For those wondering whether the new logo would be on the field, the sad truth has been revealed.

Snow melts.
Soon enough it will be time to change the font. Again. Maybe then we can go back to our identity as either “MICHIGAN STATE” or “STATE”.
The mascot of my alma mater is the Spartans. My Alma mater is Michigan State University. I would prefer that the wording on the football field, basketball court and hockey ice (among the other sports surfaces) reflect my alma mater’s name and not it’s mascot. However, I’ll live. This too, shall pass.

No, no
You must have missed the part about how the font is “timeless.”

I did not realize
That official secondary colors were “SPARTAN SILVER” and “SPARTAN BRONZE”. Also, that there is a “Tertiary Mark” called the MSU Shield logo. Apparently it looks something like this:

Upon further review
I think this is somebody’s Photoshopped mockup “inspired” by the official description of this mark:
Tertiary MarkI haven’t yet found an officially sanctioned representation of it.
The MSU Shield logo is inspired by Spartan battle weapons, and uses the university acronym as the base identifier. The mark’s shape and color reflects Spartan shields, which were typically made of a wood core and then faced with bronze for strength.
I wouldn't hate this if it wasn't for the bastardized block S.
Again, I’m sick of the 300 worship, and I have no idea why a college team needs a third logo. But this one seems a bit cleaner than the rest? I don’t know, I’m probably grasping at straws here.

I really can't get worked up over this
I mean, the S is still at midfield, and I think the Spartan font looks alright. Not great, but decent enough.
I just think about who we are and maybe who we "want to be"...
I can’t imagine OSU, Texas, Alabama, USC (pre sanctions), PSU or UM putting: Buckeyes, Longhorns, Crimson Tide (or Elephants), Lions or Wolverines in their endzones. The success these programs have achieved, the classic looks their uniforms and logos project is what I aspire to.
It seemed we had, with the basketball “state” logo and the block “MICHIGAN STATE” on the simple green and white uniforms, finally achieved the look of the program I aspire to be. CLASSIC, SOLID.
My opinion is that the new uniforms and font make us look like an arena league football team. They are still Green and White (oops… and gold???? too.) so like I said…this to shall pass.
Dress our boys up in pink tutus with tie-dye fedoras....
….as long as we whoop some ass on the field/court, I don’t care what they wear!
Seriously, though, I like having “Spartans” as a unified brand image- it will be much more recognizable on a national basis than “State” ever was. If you are outside of MI, OH, IN and tell someone you went to State, they inevitable ask “which State?”
(and I hated the futuristic State font on the basketball unis)
The only thing preventing me from getting too worked up
is that football—football!!!—starts on Saturday.
Otherwise, this still sucks as much as ever.

It's not that bad
at least they never went forward with that new spartan helm logo
Pardon my lack of outrage
I’ve been watching a ton of classic games on BTN the last few weeks. We have different uniforms on in every single one. The block S is really the only recognizable symbol we have that shouldn’t be messed with, and it isn’t.
I think the new font actually looks pretty good as part of the whole uniform. I would agree that standing alone on the field it isn’t great looking, but i’m not that worked up over this.

For the record I'm not outraged.
…However, I’ll live. This too, shall pass.
Mild disappointment would be more like it, but then again a University with 45,000 students and 350 to 400K living alumni, isn’t going to please everybody.
To me,
an excess of logo/font changes in the past is not an argument for even more change. It’s an argument for picking the things from your past/present that fans identify with most and sticking with them going forward.
The little notch taken out of the Block S at the front of “Spartans” grates the most.
It’ll all matter much else once there’s actual winning and losing being done on the field, but the whole thing still rubs me very much the wrong way.

Maybe
We really do just complain about everything. Just win…
The endzone looks fine, the S is still there, the uniforms will be there, and a gaping black hole hasn’t formed at midfield…
Moving on, WMU is in 5 days
At least the block S is there
My only complaint is that the “SPARTANS” really doesn’t fill the whole endzone….
I’m coming around on the whole font thing on the uniforms but I still don’t like the “SPARTANS” football shirts.

jerseys
I’ve been lucky enough to actually hold the new jerseys—the ones the players will be wearing on the field. I thought that I would hate them, but they aren’t as bad as I first thought. The green color is just a little off what it has been recently. (way better than the perles era though). I’m typically not a fan of a tertiary color, but the gold is so subtle that it’s really not bad. The helmets on the other hand are awful. The stripe starts wide and tapers down towards the back, not to a point, but still tapers. That combined with the “spartans” makes us look like an arena league team. It’s too bad JLS sucked so bad because he actually had the best looking kits of my lifetime (forgiving the green pants of course). I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that typeface though. Just really bad. I’d also be surprised if they keep the block “S” without the negative serriff, because it’s not anywhere else. What will Kalin and Durrell kiss at the end of the year?
RE: Jerseys
I’m not wild about the jerseys myself but I believe we may be dealing with a little bit of old curmudgeondom here or, in kinder terms, a generational divide. When the new designs were introduced I know a lot of people were upset that we were paralleling what many considered to be the ugly, trying-too-hard, overly-hip Oregon uniforms.
However, ESPN just did their player poll and found that the Oregon uniforms where overwhelmingly (54%) considered the best in college football by active football student-athletes. It may look one way to many of us but apparently this style resonates with the generation that is actually playing these games. Say what you will but Nike isn’t stupid. It make sense that they’d target their designs to a new generation of players, recruits, and clothing buyers. Whether it appeals to a part of the fanbase’s fashion aesthetics or not, the new jerseys may be positives in the long run.
Yes
I was in the process of trying to formulate a reply along these lines.
I would tend to agree that aesthetically I don’t care for the new font, but I don’t work for Nike or have any great expertise in this type of branding effort. But if the goal is to create a uniform or look that is easily recognizable as Michigan State, I think we hired the right people to do it.
Unfortunately the ship has sailed on having a uniform brand to match Alabama, Penn State or Michigan. You can’t manufacture that kind of tradition. So I guess I would rather we be proactive in creating a look that is pushing the envelope, even if it isn’t personally my favorite.
Ugh can’t believe I am defending these things, but there you have it, that’s my take. if they would just get rid of those stupid notches I’d be willing to give it my sign off.

I get bored and I do stuff like this...
What would SS look like with matching press boxes? Not much different

At least they left the Block S alone at the 50. I’d been disappointed to see that changed.
