Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

How will MSU do in 2010?

SBB breaks the Green and White down for us again.

Preview: Michigan State, where do I start? It's not like any Big Ten fan can't rattle off some historic moments of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". We've almost come to expect it. 4th quarter and down by only a couple points to Notre Dame in South Bend. Just marching down the field. Kirk Cousins is on fire. Michigan State is in the end zone, Cousins fires and misses a wide open receiver in the back of the end zone. Don't panic, still time left and a down or two. Next play, Cousins steps back, fired, picked off. Oh Sparty, why do you toy with our emotions? Why do you try to trick us in to believing you cna pull it off when we all know you're going to screw it up in the last minutes.

I'll forgive the snark

since you have us going 9-3 by the end. It was nice of you to preview a team that’s not even on OSU’s schedule.

This year is a bit of a mystery. We don’t know if the defense will step up yet, but I feel that there’s not a game on the schedule that’s a guaranteed loss (@Iowa is the closest one).

If the defense can revert to it’s 2008 form we’ll have a 9 or 10 win season even. If not, we’ll be in a shootout every week.

I'm previewing every team in the conference from the bottom up.

the defense returning to 2008 form would be huge. I think the let down last year was due in part to losing all those close games. maybe they figure “whats the use”. hopefully a new season and some early wins help that.

what do you think about the PSU matchup? that’s the game where I was really torn on the outcome.

Close. It only counts in Horseshoes, hand grenades and Penn State football.

Depends

Is our defense good? Is their QB situation bad? If yes to both we win. Otherwise, we continue to lose in Happy Valley.

well, from what i have read their QB is bad

unless you believe the constant S stream that BSD spouts off.

Depends on what you mean by "bad"

I’d argue that a redshirt freshman in competition with a walk-on, with Juice Williams ‘07 as the optimistic comparison point, is closer to “apocalyptic” than “bad”. (There’s a much closer parallel which PSU fans probably enjoyed greatly as it happened and would like to ignore now: Michigan ’08. Or ’09, for that matter.)

Michigan '09

Michigan ’08 may have been the worst match of quarterback to offense in the history of collegiate football. It was like trying to fit a square peg through a block of titanium.

Oh, I don't think the situation at PSU is likely to be that abysmal

But it is the most recent example of a name program trying to get by with QBs at that level of inexperience. Newsome almost assuredly isn’t Sheridan- or Threet-level sucktacular, but the mere idea that there is a basis for such a comparison has to be absolutely terrifying to Nittany Lions fans. (Forcier last year is a slightly more encouraging comparison … and he was mediocre at best.)

What was...

…up with Pat Devlin that he chose to transfer to Delaware, I wonder? Seems like JoePa would be pretty happy to be able to plug him as the post-Clark starter as a senior. Or mid-career redshirted him last year to have him with two years of eligibility.

my contention

if we lose to wisconsin i feel like we will lose the next week to UM. however, if we beat wisconsin im thinking rosebowl (since osu will be in the nattychamp game).

One problem

If the Rose Bowl loses one of its two automatic picks to the MNC game in the next four years, they’re required to take a non-BCS team if one is qualified. (Only the first time it happens, but this year would be the first.)
