Around SBN: Bob Sapp Denies Throwing Fights

One more way to relive The Fake for those of us who were either at the stadium or watching on TV. (HT: Rexrode)

Also: Aaron Bates is the most deserving Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week since, like, EVER.

2nd time in three weeks.

And probably not the last time this season, either.

Another stat that shouldn't get lost in the fake

Bates is averaging 45.8 yards per punt, good for 13th nationally. It seems he’s getting more hang time on his punts this year, which has been a problem for him in years past.

I don't know what's better....

….Blaha’s very matter-of-fact “oh they’ll fake it”, or hearing Jim Miller (I’m assuming it’s him) and others yelling joyously in the background.

Miller

I love the guy, but he must have an involuntary reflex where he jumps on Blaha’s call when a big play happens (see: Caper’s OT run against UM last year).

Blaha: Dan Conroy with the biggest kick of his life. Oh they’ll fake it. Bates…throws it.
Miller: He’s got him!

Classic.

See also the Purdue game last year

On Colin Neely’s sack to end the game:

Blaha: "He takes the shotgun snap, chased by Neely . . . "
Miller: “WHAT A PLAY!”
Blaha: “Tripped up by Colin Neely! Colin Neely’s got ’im!”

Yeah, they should have a reverse-cough-button for those kind of guys.

As we call it in the military, a “Push-to-talk” button. Where he has to consciously open his mike to say something.

Another memorable example was a Cubs broadcast years ago where the left fielder — I can’t remember his name — dropped a routine fly ball that would have clinched a playoff spot. All you could hear was Ron Santo yelling “NOOOOOOOOO” in despair.
