Way-too-Early-to-be-Projected Two-Deep, 2012-2015
In the Outback Bowl Thread, someone asked for a projected two-deep.
Well, I had some free time to dust off the one I did back in...2009. Wow. Has it really been 2+ years already? Looking at the old one was a trip down memory lane, remembering the awesomeness that was Mark Dell and the facepalminess that was Glenn Winston.
Anyway, here's a preliminary two-deep. I added the class and the number of Rivals stars. WO means walk-on; a [j] after the star ranking means Juco transfer. I assumed no early departures, so Worthy is back next year.
This was a fun exercise as I had to make some assumptions about position shuffling, Skyler Burkland, who was going to redshirt, etc.
Enjoy!

A few things
Nice work updating this thing. Thanks. But a few thoughts:
Dan France has been the starter at LT all year, I gotta think he is the front runner to stay there.
Burkland was the starter till he got hurt at RT, though I thought Fou Fonoti grew into that position. Fonoti spent time at both of the G spots early on. Just speculating that Dantonio will probably want to try and have both of them on the field. maybe Fonoti takes Foreman’s spot.
On Defense, Taiwan Jones will be pushing to make the linebacker rotation next year. Which, good lord, is deep and talented. But he was the only guy from this year’s Freshman class to have his redshirt burned. Coaches have been raving about him.
Also, Darqueze Dennard has to be penciled in as the starter opposite Adams at Corner, he’s been there when healthy this year.
Aside from those, this was fun to look at. Especially the defensive side of the ball.
Yeah that was a tough one
The other question is what to do with Blake Treadwell. Does he stay at O-line or go back to D-line? I guess that depends on what happens with Jerel Worthy.
France has played well at LT, to be sure, but his size is a little more suited to guard I think, while Burkland is more suited to tackle. I could see Burkland sliding over to guard.
Defense is going to be good for several years. The sheer athleticism of the secondary is higher than I can remember in a long time. On that note, I was looking at Boise State’s two-deep (in order to make a way-way-too-early prediction for next year). Boise is losing all 11 starters on defense. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that.
+1 on Taiwan Jones
Goodness we’ve got some LBs – Ed Davis (another redshirt from this year) isn’t even mentioned and LT (the highest rated player from the entire state last year) might not even crack the 2-deep.

He will be back next season
He is currently a junior in terms of eligibility, so he’d be back next year for his senior year.
He has to apply for a 6th year of eligibility to come back in 2013, though. MSU’s press release from earlier this year seemed to indicate that he would likely get it, so they’re planning on him returning for 2 more seasons.
Couple comments
LT redshirted, so next year he is a freshman, Hicks has been playing Safety so I think if anyone moves from there to Corner it would be Lewis who plays slot corner in the nickel package. Dennard isn’t even on the list (which i assume was just an oversight, no biggie). I think Lyles/Pittman would play different ends. Also- I think Mcgowen (sp?) and Tompkins will be contributers pretty early, RS Fr or So year.
Aside from that, this team looks great going forward, Thank you for putting this up.
LT
Yep, forgot about his redshirt, thanks. Also for catching the oversight on Darqueze.
Right now, anything after 2012 has to be taken with a grain of salt (and maybe some tequila and lime)* until signing day, and really the spring game will clarify the backups and who has the line on future spots.
I’ll try to keep up with this going forward.

Brandon Clemons...
…and Juwan Ceasar have also redshirted so far this year, that I noticed.
Current true frosh Jack Allen will probably a be a factor at C or G. Coaches were very high on him due in part to his wrestling background.

TE
Drew Stevens (who’s bounced around from LB to FB to TE) and Paul Lang (who’ll be a redshirt freshman) will be factors there, I’d think. I’d also wonder if Shilique Calhoun might not move to TE from DE. He was rated as both coming out of high school and has been redshirting this year.
I'd guess Calhoun stays at DE
He’s been getting a lot of praise on the scout team
Since we're guessing
I’d put Arjen Colquhoun as the backup behind Lewis, as opposed to the true frosh Bullough. I remember hearing about him in the summer as a guy that had a chance to play this year, but lack of injuries and the quality of play from Robinson, Lewis, and Drummond meant he could keep the redshirt (of course, he’s listed as a CB now, so who knows where he’ll end up).
It’s fun to look back on the guys that redshirted this year. Looking forward to seeing guys like Andre Sims Jr, Shilique Calhoun, and Brandon Clemons, among others.

Thanks for putting this together CPT
One guy I haven’t seen mentioned is Kittiridge the transfer DT from Vandy. He’ll have sophomore eligibility next year and he may start next to White although it could be Hoover/Treadwell.
It’ll be interesting to see what positions Lippett, Treadwell, Hoover, Jack Allen and Travis Jackson end up at.
We should be good next year, but look at that 2013 line up. We could be starting all upperclassmen at the 24 positions. Every offensive player on the 2 deep will return in 2013 besides Baker/Caper but we’ll still have Bell and Hill at RB plus 6 current defensive starters will still be around. We also don’t play Wiscy, OSU or PSU that year.
He played...
…as a true frosh at Vandy. Gotta expect him to challenge for some of Pickelman’s PT. Or Worthy’s, if he jumps.
