"We are not going to just take anybody, either," Izzo said. "We are looking at a couple kids in Ohio. We are not relying on (this potential recruit) to be any kind of savior."

I don't claim to know much
on this subject, but I believe Gary Harris is an ‘12 recruit who we, sadly, don’t have a scholarship available for in the class, also Izzo is talking about this upcoming ’11 class correct?
And that’s about all I claim know, lol. But per the outdated ESPN and Rivals list of Ohio ’11 prospects the pickings appear slim. Maybe Izzo can find another Trice in the rough. Izzo is looking too add another guard, right? So if we did sign someone it would pretty much eliminate all (of whatever is left of our) chances to get Gary Harris.
I like Deontae Hudson from Muskegon Heights, from what I saw in the post-season, he can play and definitely stood out in the finals against Sexton. The interesting part about Hudson is he’s also a football player (WR, with an offer from Toledo) but prefers to play basketball in college. Not sure how much college interest he’s gotten in bball but I bet Monty would love to bring him to NIU. Here is a little article about his frustrations with his lack of recruitment.
Thoughts?

I think this is either coded language or a red herring
But it’s not what it seems. I don’t think Izzo is actively recruiting anyone in Ohio to fulfill a 2011 scholarship. Frankly, it just doesn’t make any sense. With Byrd, Anderson, Dawson, Trice, and Kearney, the only thing Izzo doesn’t already having coming in next year in the backcourt is experience and you can’t recruit that. If Izzo and staff were serious about taking another 2011 player, there would be more of a rumor mill. MSU representatives would be at games, journalists would take note, but that’s not happening. Instead, they’re watching Gary Harris and 2013 guys like Derrick Walton, James Young, and Monte Morris.
I’m not sure what Izzo is up to but I don’t think he’s going to bring in a scholarship 2011 guard. I would bet strongly against it. Perhaps he could be looking at a particular walk-on?

Walk-ons
Are coaches allowed recruit walk-ons in basketball? Because there’s no such thing a preferred walk-on and I remember Izzo saying something along those lines when he was talking about the walk-on tryout process on his radio show a while back.
But I agree, adding another guard, or even a big man, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I'm not exactly sure about the rules with walk-ons but
I know that Austin Thornton didn’t just happen to show up at Michigan State. Pretty sure Izzo and staff had a relationship and knew he was coming. He was included on the list of recruit on websites like Scout.
