Nice clip

I’m glad this guy will be playing for us soon.

Just what the doctor ordered

Hopefully this kid gains 15-20 lbs before his frosh year of college and he looks like he’ll be a beast. Finally going to have a big that can face up and shoot as well as play with his back to the basket.

Recurring Theme

Seems like all of our bigs need to bulk up except Nix who needs to slim down.
Why do UConn and Syracuse seem to always be stocked with bigs that don’t need to be locked in the weight room?
Where do they get those guys?
Costello does have game though.

comparisons

How does Costello compare to other MSU bigs from the past and present? Also how similar is he to Kaminski?

I don't know about Spartans

but I hear a lot of comparisons to Jon Leuer.

jon leuer

Isn’t Kaminski more of that pick and pop shooter like Leuer? And Costello’s more athletic?

by stankyleg on Apr 11, 2011 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions

They both can definitely shoot

I view Kaminski as more of a 6’7" combo forward who can give you minutes at the wing whereas Costello is going to develop into a 6’9" true post player. I think that’ll be clear in the next few years when he bulks up. Though KK probably isn’t going to knock anyone out as an athlete, it’s probably an underrated part of his game.

Costello is taller/longer and more athletic than Kaminski (not that Kaminski is a stiff though). But Kaminski is one of the best shooting forwards in the country. They should compliment nicely. I hope they both keep growing. If either of them adds an inch or 2 they could be off the charts prospects.

thanks

So were not getting another Sherman right? Haha

by stankyleg on Apr 11, 2011 8:47 PM CDT up reply actions

What's wrong with getting another Sherman?

I’d love to get another Sherman! Actually (though a couple inches shorter) it sounds like Kaminski could be a Sherman type of forward. Somewhat limited athletically but a dead eye jump shooter with a crafty, developing inside game.

LOL

Forget my last comment. I was typing Sherman but I was thinking Suton. haha.

Hopefully Kenny can be a 6’7"/6’8" version of Goran. That would be nice addition and a great compliment to the more athletic Gauna and Costello. That video of Costello is fantastic though and like was mentioned before, JUST what the doctor ordered.

Thank god haha, I was reading your first post and was trying to remember if I’ve ever seen Sherman take a jumpshot, haha. And sounds like a nice compliment to Costello.

Sherm jumper

Now that you mention it, I cannot remember EVER having seen Sherm take a jumper, and (like most of us posters on here), I watch every minute of every MSU game, often more than once.

That being said, he sure is crafty around the hoop. I love his ’up & under" move, and hope it works out for him wherever he ends up.

The Zapruder film

Was there a second shooter, or was this the work of Sherman alone? Here’s a jumpshot, appropriately against Texas (though not in Dallas):

Actually, at the beginning of the year Sherman was taking a lot of these turnaround half-hooks that were technically counted as jumpers. That seemed to disappear from his game after a while.

Nice find

Unfortunately, it didn’t go in. And I do remember those turnaround hooks, another crafty move!!

About Costello, though, I’m pumped, it really seems like he can play. And he’s got a great move to get open in the lane for a dunk, he ran that play at least three times in that game!
