25 Years of the 3 Point Shot
It seems like yesterday, but then when your first memory of MSU basketball is Julius McCoy and Bob Anderegg almost everything seems like yesterday. So, today's trivia question is this: Who was the first player to make a three point shot in Big Ten play? As you can probably imagine because it the question is on this site, it was a Spartan. As a hint, I'll tell you this, it happened in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in an ESPN Wednesday night game. I'll be back in the comments with the answer.

Sadly, no.
But, that’s the answer that the guy who actually did it gave when asked about it ten years or so later.
Snow wasn't here in '86
Unless you’re thinking of big brother Percy.
As Richard Boone said to John Wayne
“You come close, Mister, but no cigar.” The shooter is still in the Mid Michigan area and is in the insurance biz, unlike Carlton who is coaching.
I fear I have misled you
In rechecking things, the first Big Ten 3 pointer was shot in 1983, the year the league experimented with the 3 point shot in conference games. Nonetheless, the answer remains the same. Larry Polec.
Arrrrggh! Polec?
A favorite target of mine as an MSU student, and the archetype for a procession of white guys said to possess athletic ability but who drove me to despair while awaiting their maturation. Larry could jump, and he became a good player. But I swear to God, I expected him to brick the layup on that Skiles wraparound versus Georgetown.
HAHA awesome
I never would have guessed that name, it’s one that I’ve heard, but I was born in 1977 & didn’t get into college sports until the early 90’s, so he precedes my historical first hand knowledge.
And props to you Uncle Omar for the random Spartan trivia, I love it! Keep in coming!!!
