Maryland joins Big Ten

Stay connected for news and updates

Rob Carr

In hopes of expanding the Big Ten Network's footprint, the Big Ten invited Maryland to join the conference, and the school's board of regents approved the move Monday.

Maryland will officially join for the 2014-15 season. Rutgers is expected to also join the conference.

What does this mean for divisions and whatnot? BTN will have a press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Update: Maryland and Rutgers will be put in the Leaders division, while Illinois will be moved over to the Legends.
