The 1884 football squad. This link says the back of the photo reads "The first MAC football team 1884." But in that year, the school was known as State Agricultural College.
Football was just a club sport at MSU until 1896, when it moved to varsity status. (Wikipedia says MSU and Albion played the first intercollegiate game in the state in 1884, but I can't find any real evidence of that online).
