Back in 2010 KJ wrote about the strength of Izzo programs year-to-year in returning seniors (Return of the Spartans) and asked if anyone knew anything about Bobby McKenzie - the 97-98 season’s only walk-on who played a single minute for the team in his senior year 1-year career. An update followed a few days later with several readers reporting on the now dubbed "Moonlight Graham" (including me). Rob had been reported finishing a PhD abroad, performing refugee work, and living (and shooting hoops) in DC.
A new chapter has opened in the Spartan’s career as Bobby McKenzie announced in late October that he’s running for the US Congress in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District (western Oakland/northwestern Wayne counties). It's definitely the same guy.
He’s running as a Democrat against a tea-party incumbent and a Republican challenger/ Detroit foreclosure lawyer. I imagine Izzo wants to stay far away from state/national politics, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bobby make a few stops back up to the Breslin Center this upcoming year.
His website is www.bobbyformichigan.com. I imagine he'd appreciate the support.
(Rather than describing the hugely gerrymandered district... here's a map)
