Freep Guest Column: Meeting expectations

Is MSU better as the "underdog?"

After the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, a belief has formed among some that the Spartans play better with a chip on their shoulders. When they have high expectations, they struggle to meet them.

Looking over Izzo's career, it's quite clear that talent wins out in the end. MSU will be a top-five team next season with Adreian Payne returning, which means it will be more likely MSU continues the Final Four streak, as five of Izzo's six Final Fours have come with a preseason top-10 ranking.
