Since people eat them up, the early 2013-14 preseason rankings for college basketball have come out the day after last night's championship.
The biggest problem is that most NBA decisions haven't been made. Gary Harris and Adreian Payne are kind of important for MSU, as are Mitch McGary, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Glenn Robinson III for Michigan.
Anyway, here is where some notable outlets have MSU ranked for next season. There surely will be updates in a few weeks after NBA decisions are made.
ESPN: No. 3
CBS Sports: No. 2
Yahoo! Sports: No. 3
USA Today: No. 5
Sports Illustrated: No. 2
RealGM: No. 2
College Basketball Talk: No. 8
The Big Lead: No. 7
There are some others I'm probably missing. If Harris and Payne do come back, the Champions Classic game against Kentucky in Chicago has an outside chance of being a 1 vs. 2 matchup.
If one of Harris/Payne leaves, MSU will probably be in the 10-20 range. If both leave, maybe the 20-25 range.
Yes, I know preseason polls don't mean anything, especially in basketball. It's just something fun to talk about.
(FYI, the NCAA date to withdraw from the draft is April 16, while the NBA deadline to declare is April 28. Yes, it's stupid)
