Keith Appling Misses the Cut, Again

About a year ago this time, Keith Appling was regularly showing up on various lists of breakout player candidates for the upcoming season. On one night in November, he seemed to make good on that promise with an excellent 2nd half that took down Kansas. But looking at Appling's season on the whole, we can't really say he was a breakout player. I mean he was, sometimes, but other times he definitely was not.

So now it's List Season again and we'll get to see if anybody wants to double down on Keith and predict a breakout season again. If not, there's always top 10 this or that or positional ranking type deals that will be used to make wild projections for various players. First up is the Sporting News Top 10 Point Guards List and... Keith missed the cut.

So who does ol' Mike DeCourcy think are better PG's than Keith? Well there's the obligatory, hotshot Kentucky freshman, an overweight guard with a more unreliable jumper than Keith's, 3 Appling Tormentors, another guard that's yet to play a second of D1 ball and Kevin Pangos?! Now Keith Appling has frustrated me as much as anybody else but would I rather have Kevin Pangos instead?

Three word answer: No. Hell No!

Here's the full list. (Slideshow warning!!)

On the upside, this Illinois beat writer has Appling 6th among BTPOY candidates. Scroll down to see this list.
