Disclaimer: I did not graduate from Michigan State. I was converted by my fiance, whose family are mostly State grads. They became my second favorite team (behind Florida State) after meeting Tom Izzo a few times while working at Disney for the AAU tournaments. So, while I love Michigan State and their green and white motif, I am open to the introduction of gold.
I designed these on the niketeam.com website.
Like I said before, Michigan State has one of my favorite combos. I think the 1977 "State" script logos are probably one of the top 3 best all-time in basketball. In regards to uniforms, I often think simplicity with subtle individualism is the best route. Monochrome uniforms (green on green/white on white) are very popular in basketball and almost every school does their uniforms this way. Football, however often use green tops and white pants, which I think is more aesthetically pleasing, so that was my main idea behind this uniform set. The NikeTeam website doesn't give you a lot of uniform templates to work with, however, they do have the official Michigan State font on there.
It's hard to fix something that is broken, so I simply took the same idea behind the "script" jerseys and updated it to the modern font. I would've liked to been able to put the a gold helmet on the collar but Nike didn't give me that option. The only beef I have with new "script" jerseys is that they use the new font numbers with the old text, which clashes.
It seems like a lot of people like the block S. I'm sure i'm on an island for this, but I think the block S is hackneyed, as it also reminds me of Syracuse and Stanford; I think it should be used sparingly. The new "S" is more distinctive, despite the fact that UCF stole the same font for their football numbers. Like the collar, I wanted to add a gold helmet at the waist but it wouldn't let me.
What do you think?
