More and more, I find that announcers detract from my viewing experience. The list of announcers that make me want to smash my head against the coffee table is much longer than the list of announcers I can tolerate. There are just a handful of announcers I genuinely enjoy and feel add something positive to the experience.
What I would love, and what will never happen, is to see a broadcast with no announcers. Not every game, but from time to time. I want to hear the crowd, the PA announcer, the pep band, the whistles, the sneaker squeaks, the coaches yelling, and the rest of the things I associate with being at a game.
It's not just the announcers; I only want one camera angle, panning gently left and right to follow the action, near the middle of the court, with some of the crowd included in the shot. No aerial views. No views from the opposite backboard. That view sucked when I was stuck with those seats, and it sucks on my TV screen. I don't want to see other sports scores scrolling along the bottom of the screen. In fact, I want to see the actual scoreboard in real time, a small version of it in the corner of the screen. No graphics, no clutter, just the game.
The constant bombardment of words, camera angles, and graphics is overwhelming.
