Elsworth on the hunt for an opportunity
I know with the draft coming up there are a lot of big name Spartans we're all looking forward to coming off the board but I saw this article on Scout from TOC Alum Mike Wilson and I wanted to let all the faithful know about it. It happens to be about one of my favorite Spartans: Kyler Elsworth. We all know how big his Rose Bowl performance was and have probably heard it mentioned that he's begun to be mentioned as a possible undrafted free agent but there's a little tidbit buried in this article that I had no idea about: "So with plans to take the MCAT and attend med school on the backburner, Elsworth is heading into this weekend hoping he secures himself an opportunity and another chance to prove himself." That is not one but two largely unsung, supporting role guys from this past years football team who not only contributed on the field but also have kicked academic-ass in classroom and could be bound for Med school. In today's college sporting world where the student part of student-athlete is largely overlooked I thought it was worth celebrating the amazing job of Elsworth and Scarpinato taking care of their business in the classroom as well as on the gridiron. I think this is awesome and reflects the kind of kids we as Spartan Nation and Coach Dantonio and his staff want at MSU: Hard workers both on and off the field, guys who didn’t take the easy road (either by transferring for playing time or by going general studies) and high character young men. Today I’m prouder than ever to be a Spartan and to call these guys Spartans.
