SB Nation's Bill Connelly examines the state of this year's Michigan State team. What has happened to last year's Playoff contender?
Michigan State and Indiana play for the Old Brass Spittoon. You probably knew that, but above is a pretty interesting history of the trophy. The real question is when Indiana will ever get it back. They've only won it twice since 1995, and the last time was a decade ago.
Last week, just four of SB Nation's 17 pick 'em participants choose Michigan State to beat Notre Dame. Apparently they've learned their lesson, as this week fully 16 of 17 have picked the Spartans to win. Good choice!
SB Nation's college football writers do a weekly pick 'em-style competition on the biggest games of the week. Only 4 of the crew picked MSU, while 13 went with Notre Dame. Looks like a lot of folks are about to be WRONG.
Mark Dantonio's twitter account has become quite the place for Michigan State highlight vids. Above, highlights from around the NFL featuring the best plays made by Spartans in wee one. With 28 former MSU players on NFL rosters, there's a lot to choose from.

Franklin Gomez: Michigan State Alumnus and Olympic wrestler for Puerto Rico lost a match due to a "questionable" referee decision. The officials in his match have now been suspended. Franklin was a great guy when we were undergrads and I had to chance to interact with him on a few occasions. The following is the statement released by UWW on Sunday night: Referee commission chairman Antonio SILVESTRI (GER) has announced the suspension of referees following suspicious officiating during the 65kg quarterfinal match between Franklin GOMEZ (PUR) and Ikhtiyor MAVRUZOV (UZB). Temo KAZARASHVILLI (GEO), Tong-Kun CHUNG (KOR) and Sergei NOVAKOSKIY (RUS) have been removed from refereeing responsibilities pending investigation and face further sanction. They are also not on the field of play for the night's final session. The match and all circumstances surrounding the match are also under full investigation by the United World Wrestling Ethical Commission with a full report to be issued at the conclusion of the examination.
SB Nation's Bill Connelly comes correct with his 2016 Michigan State football preview. Connelly says what every MSU fan is thinking: Don't count Sparty out.
