Greg Jones is running away with the first matchup. I think this one will be closer. Today's battle royale (I know I'm overselling it a bit, but I can only use "matchup" so many times before it becomes tiring) features the NFL's all-time leading scorer against one of the most explosive athletes to play on the hardwood for the Green and White:
Morten Andersen: Andersen came over to the States as an exchange student from Denmark and earned a scholarship to Michigan State after one season of high school football. From there he had a sparkling Spartan career, kicking a Big Ten record 63-yard field goal and was named an All-American in 1981. After college he played for 25 years in the NFL on six different teams. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and a six-time All-Pro selection, and made both the '80s and '90s All-Decade team. He hit just under 80% of his field goals in his NFL career (79.7%, much increased from 62.5% as a Spartan), and is in the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.
Jason Richardson: Richardson was only with the Spartans for two seasons. He started three games on the 2000 championship team, averaging 5.1 points and 4.1 rebounds. Richardson made the All-Big Ten first team his sophomore and final season, averaging 15.4 points and 5.9 rebounds for game. He also led the Spartans with 24 blocks that season, because why not. He was drafted 5th by Golden State, and went on to make the All-Rookie team and win two slam dunk competitions in his first two years in the NBA. He's had a 10-year career so far with four different teams (Warriors, Bobcats, Suns, Magic), and has more than 13,000 points, 3,500 rebounds, and 2,000 assists.
So what say ye? Who doth move forward, and who doth get cut?
