Football 'Crootin Roundup is breaking records

A look at the past week in MSU football recruiting.

Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE

Not much on the recruiting trail this past week, although some more possibilities for the few remaining spots in the 2013 class are popping up. Also, catching up with a few commits.

Prep update: Terry continues to shine (Rivals) - A look at how some MSU commits fared last week. As for this week...

Scout also has a solid story on Terry's successful senior year thus far.

2013 Florida DT commit Devyn Salmon still likes MSU

Spartan commit impresses in victory (Scout) - A look at how Jalyn Powell is doing in his senior season. He talked about how his commitment wasn't hard.

"I grew up around the program, and I had an uncle (Lavelle Richardson) and a cousin (Chris L. Rucker) play there," Powell said. "It just feels like home to me, and I'm thrilled to be going there. Michigan State said they're expecting me to play right away, and they want me ready to go when I get there."

Catching up with Shane Jones (247) - Linebacker commit Shane Jones talks about his season, as well as the ribbing he got when Ohio State beat MSU.

"Oh yeah, all day at school I heard about it," Jones said. "Mostly kids, but I do have a religion teacher that's a big Michigan fan."

Adams still quiet on leaders (Rivals) - No word on if No. 1 DT Montravius Adams will end up making a second visit to MSU. I only have this here because he kicks and recovers an onside kick at the 2:30 mark of the video. It's pretty hilarious and awesome.

Season first, then visits for Gibbs (Scout) - 2013 Cass Tech DT Kenton Gibbs is getting a lot of attention from teams since his decommitment from Illinois. Although he doesn't have a Spartan offer, he says MSU has been coming on stronger, recently. Another interior lineman would be nice for MSU, although scholarship numbers are limited right now. Gibbs says he's waiting until his season is over before making visits.

MSU offers another JUCO DT (247) - Per 247, MSU made a surprise offer to Hutchinson C.C. DT Toby Johnson. He's a five-star recruit and the No. 1 JUCO player in the country, so I don't know how realistic of a shot MSU has, but it's telling that they made another JUCO offer while being the team to beat for fellow JUCO DT Kyle Peko. I think this season's struggles in the middle are a factor. (Peko mention!)

Going back to Cali? (247) - First off, props to the headline writer. It seemed MSU had cooled off California safety Brandon Arnold, but he's still in contact and is hoping to visit Nov. 3.

Another Lone Star OL target? (247) - MSU was burned by the commitment and decommitment of Texas OL Caleb Benenoch, but the Spartans continue to work the state. MSU would still like some more OL for the 2013 class, and two-star Tristan Nickelson is hearing from the Spartans. He doesn't have an offer, but said he would surely take an official visit if one comes.

Harrison RB likes Spartans (Rivals) - 2014 Farmington Hills Harrison running back Lorenzo Collins doesn't have any offers yet, but is hearing from MSU, Nebraska, Purdue, Wisconsin and others. MSU is looking for a top running back in the 2014 class.

"Coach Salem is who I keep in contact with," he stated. "I have not been able to get up there this fall, but I want to. I love the Spartans and I am praying that they offer me a scholarship. I know they have a good electrical engineering program too."
