Football Crootin' Roundup Is 95 Percent Sure

New, 8 comments

Thanks for the responses last week on whether or not to continue this after the season begins. I haven't made a decision yet, but it might be something I do every other week. It will depend on a few factors.

MSU reportedly picked up a transfer from Ohio State in defensive end Kenny Hayes, which could affect 2013 scholarships and MSU's options for the class, but there's another end who may commit to MSU soon...

Cooper playing the percentages? (247) - Chicago defense end Demetrius Cooper says there's a 95 percent chance he commits to MSU. The Spartans are still looking for an end in the class.

"Everything going on with Michigan State is great," Cooper said. "I'm looking forward to making a commitment there because there's a lot I like about them. There's a high percent chance I make a commitment to Michigan State sometime in the next week to two weeks."

Finley getting close to decision (247) - Not really an update. Cass Tech offensive tackle Dennis Finley still has MSU, Ohio State, Wisconsin and "maybe Illinois" in mind. The only game Finley said he is set to visit is MSU-OSU.

MSU-Florida battle for huge tackle? (247) - Despite not having an offer from MSU, Detroit Country Day lineman Poet Thomas has the Spartans in his top three, along with Florida and SMU. MSU wants to see Thomas play on offense more before making a decision, and Thomas is hoping to get up to some of the early MSU football games.

Preseason Midwest Top 150 (Scout) - No MSU players in the Rivals250, but a majority of the class is listed in Scout's top 150 Midwest players, led by Jon Reschke at No. 35.

Augusta has Spartans in top group (Rivals) - Three-star Illinois defensive lineman Josh Augusta has MSU high on his list. He currently plays end, but has the size to move to tackle. MSU needs more help on the inside.

"Right now the University of Illinois, Michigan State, Mizzou and Oklahoma are schools that are standing out," he said. "I will probably take official visit to them and make my decision after my senior season."

In case you were getting excited about Montravious Adams...

Will still be on the lookout to see if he makes a second visit for a game.

Quick hitter: Green looking at five (Scout) - Three-star New Jersey receiver/safety Reggie Green has MSU in his top five. His only scheduled official visit at at Pitt.

Garrett talks top five (247) - 2014 Illinois linebacker Clifton Garrett has MSU at No. 3 in his top five, behind Oklahoma and Ohio State and ahead of Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

MSU very high on Henderson's list (247) - Four-star 2014 Virginia quarterback Caleb Henderson says MSU and Ohio State are high on his list. Henderson's father was Pat Narduzzi's roommate at Rhode Island, so Narduzzi has stayed in contact with Henderson, who is the No. 2-ranked pro-style quarterback in 2014.

Jones looking to visit Spartans (Scout) - 2014 Chicago offensive lineman Jamarco Jones hoping to visit for the Notre Dame game.
