Football Crootin' Roundup's Parents Are Gone For The Night

New, 3 comments

Note: The football recruiting roundup is moving to Fridays and will be shorter. The biggest reason is to have an updated list of notable recruits visiting, as that's pretty much the newsiest thing during the season, along with what those recruits thought of their visits. We'll also include updates on commits in their games).

First things first, MSU picked up two commitments last weekend in Chicago DE Demetrius Cooper and Detroit OT Dennis FInley. Both were at the top of MSU's list and are big pickups for positions of need. MSU is up to 13 commitments and probably only has room for a couple more or so. The hope is for at least one more offensive lineman.

Holmes, C-A make statement (Rivals) - Running back commit Gerald Holmes had 162 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 14 carries for Flint Carman-Ainsworth last weekend. Holmes missed much of last season with a leg injury. Scout has some video highlights of Holmes.

Trey Kilgore video interview (Rivals) - Wide receiver commit Trey Kilgore is out 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his foot, and Rivals talked with him about the injury.

R.J. Shelton runs wild (Scout) - Running back commit R.J. Shelton ran for 238 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries and had a punt return touchdown. Scout has the video highlights.

Jalyn Powell - Week one (Scout) - Safety commit Jalyn Powell had 13 tackles in a losing effort. Scout has video highlights and a scouting report.

He's always around the ball. He does a great job of getting around blocks, finding the ball and making good, sure tackles. He was not tested in coverage at all, but did show some of his ball skills and athleticism on offense.

Catching up with the next Jones (Scout) - Scout catches up with linebacker commit Shane Jones and has a couple highlights.

Dunbar wants to talk to Dantonio (247) - Three-star defensive end Ruben Dunbar has MSU and Illinois as the only two programs he's considering. Mark Dantonio wasn't around during his first visit to MSU. He doesn't have any officials scheduled.

Visitors: Notable visitors tonight include commits Jon Reschke, Cooper and Byron Bullough and prospects Malik McDowell, J.J. McGrath, Damon Webb and Deon Drake, among many, many others. Check out the full lists at 247 and Scout.

Speaking of McGrath:

He's talking about OL Caleb Benenoch. People really need to chill out.
