Football 'Crootin Roundup's Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over

Saturday night's game against Notre Dame is shaping up to be one of the biggest recruiting weekends in some time for MSU. With only a couple spots left for the 2013 class, there is a heavy focus on the 2014 kids visiting.

Visit lists: 247, Rivals, Scout

Notable 2014 players include Malik McDowell, Caleb Henderson, Damon Webb and Deon Drake, among many others, some highlighted below. A number of commits will be there, as well.

Recruiting Report: September (247) - Spartan Tailgate breaks down the numbers and believes MSU has around 16 spots for the 2013 class. MSU already has 13 commits and is the favorite for some guys, so there is little room. The hope to fill the few remaining spots with linemen or a skill athlete.

Cooper stays open to Iowa State (Rivals) - So remember how DE commit Demetrius Cooper said he wasn't going to de-commit, and that his commitment to MSU is secure? Well, a new report from the Iowa State Rivals site talks about Cooper's desire to play with high school teammate Khairi Bailey, a three-star DE who has an ISU offer, but not MSU. It's quotes like this that make people hate recruiting.

"I've committed and can say I've done that. But even though I committed, I've still got love for every coach that was recruiting me. Things might change. It's just a verbal commit. It's not an "I'm in commit", but just a verbal one."

Cooper hasn't talked with ISU coaches since his MSU commitment, but I'm sure Mark Dantonio is thrilled to hear this. 247 says Cooper is visiting for Notre Dame.

Video: MSU's recent gets (Scout) - Allen Trieu looks at the pick-ups of Cooper and Dennis Finley and looks ahead to 2014.

Change of plans for Adams (247) - One of the top players in 2013, Georgia DT Montravius Adams has canceled his trip to MSU. His mother works multiple jobs, and she's unable to come. He wants her to come with him on his official visits. 247 says he still will give MSU a fair shake and wants to visit East Lansing, but this is unfortunate for MSU in the short-term.

Williams schedules visit (247) - When we last heard from Pennsylvania safety/athlete Delton Williams, he said his next visit to MSU would mean a commitment. Well, he tells 247 that he's visiting for the Ohio State game. Nebraska and West Virginia are the other top teams for Williams, who is a high school teammate of MSU QB commit Damion Terry.

"I'm visiting Michigan State for the Ohio State game," Williams said. "I just love it there and it feels like home."

Michigan State baiting a gator? (247) - Three-star Georgia defensive end Antonio Riles is verbally committed to Florida, but is planning a visit to MSU. He has offers from several SEC and ACC schools.

Spartans playing it safe? (247) - Three-star California safety Brandon Arnold was looking forward to visiting MSU for the Ohio State game, but he hasn't heard from the Spartan coaches. MSU picked up two safeties in 2011 and have one for 2012. It's possible Delton Williams could be No. 2, but there might not be any room.

Benenoch lining up official visits (247) - Remember Caleb Benenoch, the Texas OL who de-committed from MSU? He's hoping to make an official visit up for the Nebraska game. If he can't make it, he wants to do one after the season.

Pitt QB commit plans MSU visit (247) - 2014 three-star QB Chandler Kincade committed to Pitt under Todd Graham and says he's still committed to Paul Chryst. He's been in contact with MSU for a while and is likely coming to the Notre Dame game.

Top Ohio TE will attend MSU-ND game (247) - Headline says it all. He likes how MSU uses multiple tight ends, obviously.

Watkins sets up East Lansing visit (247) - 2014 four-star Ohio athlete Dariean Watkins will be in town for Notre Dame. He really likes Mike Tressel and MSU's consistent success. What a change in perception from just a few years ago.

"They have an amazing school tradition and I would love to be a part of that. I see Michigan State as a team that every year they have a shot at winning a national championship because they are always good. They are pretty consistent so eventually they are going to win it all."

Indianapolis LB hopes to visit MSU (Rivals) - 2014 Indiana OLB Brandon Lee already has offers from Indiana, Purdue and Iowa. He couldn't make it up to the Boise State game, but has been in contact with Dave Warner and wants to visit.

Alabi visits Spartans and Wolverines (Scout) - If you care about 2015, kids, you probably have a Scout account, so I'm just going to leave this here.
