Football 'Crootin Roundup is being hospitable

Gregory Shamus

With many visitors on tap for next weekend, including the majority of the 2013 commits taking their official visits, this weekend will see many junior prospects come to East Lansing.

The headliners include one of the three 2014 quarterbacks the Spartans have offered, DeShone Kizer, and a top in-state prospect in Lawrence Marshall. Florida commit Antonio Riles also will be on campus this weekend, and you can bet the Spartans want to add him to the fold.

Also headed for a visit is 2014 offensive lineman Nathaniel Devers.

Spartans get last Augusta visit (247) - The Spartans still are looking to add a defensive lineman to the 2013 class, and Augusta could fit that mold. Another school leads for his services, but who knows what the visit could do.

Ohio 2014 standout to visit Spartans (Scout) - Dareian Watkins doesn't have an MSU offer yet, but one could come this weekend as the junior athlete visits MSU.

O'Connor switches schools, reclassifies (Rivals) - Having just transferred from Canada to a school in Tennessee, quarterback Michael O'Connor is transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. In the process, he also is changing from a class of 2015 prospect to 2014. O'Connor still has an MSU offer, joining Kizer and Caleb Henderson as the quarterbacks with MSU offers for 2014.

DE Hendrix hopes to visit Michigan State (Rivals) - With defensive end a priority for MSU in 2014, DeWayne Hendrix is an intriguing prospect. He has an offer and was invited to the junior day this weekend, but doesn't know if he can make it.

Owens fits mold of departing Bell (247) - At 6-foot-2, 225-pounds, Gerald Owens certainly has the size of Le'Veon Bell, and he is interested in MSU. More interestingly: He reached out to MSU, too.

Harrell high on Spartans (Scout) - Florida athlete T.J. Harrell has the ties to Michigan State -- as former Spartan Jeremy Ware's cousin and good friends with 2013 commit Devyn Salmon. He is a name that will keep popping up in these roundups and everywhere else for a while.
