January 1, 1966: This photograph shows the MSU Marching Band marching down the Rose Parade route.
Photo via the MSU Archives, as usual.
If you listened to the Rece Davis podcast last week, and stuck around to the end, you heard a vintage performance by the Michigan State College marching band. ("On the banks of the Red Cedar, there's a college known to all ... ") That song is part of a record from the 1950s (I think?) that a friend, who works at a nursing home, was able to copy from one of the residents, and then gave to me. Now, it's my turn to give it to you.
You'll instantly recognize some of these; some might sound familiar; others might not have been heard in 60 years. All are brilliantly old-timey and generally fantastic. Enjoy. And, if you enjoyed these, take a look at this old TOC post for more.
